Haridwar and Rishikesh

Haridwar and Rishikesh
I'll be going to Haridwar and Rishikesh this weekend, and would appreciate any recommendations for places to stay. My tentative plan is to overnight in Haridwar and day-trip to Rishikesh, but that could be reversed if necessary. Rishikesh's top choice seems to be Ananda Resort, but the price is out my league for this little solo excursion; I'm considering Haveli Hari Ganga in Haridwar, but the price seems a little steep for what you get and the reviews on Tripadvisor (all two of them) seem mixed. Any other ideas? 
Tips on places to see, eat etc also welcome. And no, I'm not going there for the yoga

I am sorry I am unable to offer a recommendation although my last visit to Haridwar was in July 2006. The pcitures look nice, but I am not sure if it would look like it does in the pictures. What do you plan to see in Rishikesh?

If you really want to go to Uttranchal I would suggest Dehradoon & Mussori OR Nainital, Ranikhet and Kausani. I think these places are not religious thus clean and more scenic.
