Expedited Visa
New to this forum but could not find anything recent. I have a German passport living in the US as a Resident Alien. Need to leave for India within a week. All reports I have read online say that their outsourced visa service says it can take 45 days to get a visa. 1. I'm going to India to do a product verification before shipping several hundred thousands of $ worth of product and it is time sensitive. Even if it were not time sensitive, I can't have my passport out of my control for 45 days. Is there any way to get an expedited visa in under 7-10 days? Thanks in advance for any advice. If it matters, I only need to be in India for 24-36 hours depending on flight schedules.

If you go to your local Indian consulate, you should be able get your visa in a day. Drop off the passport in the morning and pick it up in the evening (or the next day at the latest). Visas rarely take longer than that to get.

Are you saying all visas rarely take longer than a day or saying Indian visas rarely take longer than a day? I don't think it's true. Many visas can be arranged in a day , but it's not rare for them to take days/weeks.
India consulate in NY does not cater to walk-in applicants

I believe same is true for other India consulates in US

...One can definitely apply for a visa in person at an Indian consulate. I know people who have done it recently in Chicago and New York. The website you provided does not mention that you can't apply in person. It simply says that visa processing is now being handled by Travisa. In fact, the website of Travisa specifically says one may apply in person:

There are usually different processes/timings/requirements if you apply as a us citizen/previously Indian citizen/alien in us. The third category is usually most scrutinised.
I have never had luck getting thru the phone with NY consulate. Usually end up at a voice mail box which has not been setup
Also visa rules change all the time. My recommendation would still be for op to call travisa.

You can always fly to Germany and get a visa within 4 business days from the Indian embassy's visa providers in Frankfurt or Berlin...

In Germany we get the visa the same day if its urgent, the agency handling the visas will make sure you get them. If its semi urgent they will do it in one working day if you show travel documents. For same day, expect to spend the day waiting at the consulate as the consular officer may want to see you in person before approving the rush application.
I'm pretty sure the same is possible in the US.
Most of this 3-4 day wait thing is a tit for tat what western countries do to Indians applying for visas.

Tough if you're residing in a country where you are an alien, as there will be an extra check with the Indian embassy in your home country.

also, this thread doesn't really have anything to do with 'india based airlines'....i think the 'india' forum would be a much better bet....

Same-day Indian visas are possible and done just about everywhere that India has an embassy or consulate, but it is no longer as fast as it used to be and no longer the presumed standard, particularly if the Indian visa applicants aren't identified as only being of ethnic European heritages. That said, even Indian-origin US citizens get same-day visa applications fulfilled in the US same-day in the main if they start early on a given day.
As a US citizen with residence rights in countries that are not the US, I find it easier to get my Indian document needs taken care of from the US in a rush as long as in possession of proof of address materials in the relevant area to the consulate/embassy to which I am applying. The 2-4 day standard processing time in much of Europe is inexcusably poor service, made all the worse by Indian government extra-paranoia since Q4 2008 and the outsourcing contracts which India's government has entered into at just about everyone else's expense but the corrupt and the corrupting.
