Taxi Scams...Beware!

i think it would be better for the people reading this thread if they knew which cities that number would work in....

My advice for Cabs is when in a major Indian city, just dial a combination of 4s and 2s and you are likely to find one :D

As for Hyderabad, I strongly recommend Sky Cabs (49494949)

For the Chennai (MAA) area:
Fast Track - +91-(44)-2473-2020 / 2888-9999.

From MAA airport, these are flat pre-paid rates based on destination.

Otherwise, these work like regular metered taxis. No Bargaining required.

Each taxi is independently owned and operated. Fast-Track is basically the dispatcher of the taxis.

MAA airport:

There are now (as of Nov 2011), three pre-paid services (at least) available within the domestic arrivals and international arrivals areas:

1. "Pre-Paid Taxi" - Rates start at Indian rupees 275 (based on destination).
All cars are Black Ambassadors with a cream colored top. Non Airconditioned.
Nobody will escort you to the taxi. You have to find the taxi rank yourself (not too hard to find).
The rates are lowest, as is it set by the tourism board, and the cars are old without AC.
These cars are NOT available for hire TO the airport. (they will return to airport empty).

2. Fast-Track - Rates start at Rupees 450.
You will be escorted to your car.
The car type will vary from a small four door to an SUV / minivan type based on which taxi is next in line. All cars have AC.
You can request a bigger car if you need to.
These cars are independently owned by the drivers.
They are also available for hire for city use (phone 2473-2020).

3. Aviation Express - Rates start at rupees 600.
They only use bigger cars such as Toyota Innova or a Tavera or something similar. All cars have AC.
They do not use small four-door cars.
They are only available to / from the airport AFAIk. Not available for city-use.
You will always be escorted to your particular car. The car license plate number will be assigned when you pay for it.

Taxi Information
 

In Calcutta, the taxis are colored in Yellow and Black. Most of the taxis in Calcutta bear manual fare meters that are outdated. At present, the actual fare is 3 times the amount shown in these meters. The taxi driver is supposed to carry a conversion chart with the validation date clearly marked on it. Some taxis have electronic meters, for these meters, the actual fare would be 1.5 times the fare shown in the meter.

I just thought I would add an experience. I've been using Uber in Bangalore on my recent work trip. The rates are very cheap and the experience has been almost uniformly great. I guess it is somewhat predicated on getting a working SIM card with data though.

Hello Mate, i'm Ritesh from Delhi, when we required taxi services just search in Google, like Delhi Taxi Services or NCR Taki Etc.

The safest bet is to request an airport transfer from your hotel or homestay host family, especially as regards transfers from New Delhi International Airport or domestic airport since New Delhi is somewhat notorious for taxi scams.

There are many online taxi and cabs services you can choose in between

at 6am, take the fast speed train i am doing that

You taking a taxi to train? With three of us is there a saving? Hotel is around $100 to send a taxi.
