Hi all, what's the current thinking on best option from Del term 3 to Connaught area hotel? I haven't been to India in 10 years. Is Uber they way to go? Are prepaid taxis still a good option? Thx!

Both Uber or perpaid taxis are good options. Both easily available & should roughly cost the same.

Do they allow uber to pick up passengers from the DEL T3 terminal itself these days? . I last used uber to travel from the airport maybe 4 or 5 years ago. The driver made me walk across to another parking lot . ( was not easy with luggage )

Drop off at the airport with uber was fine and I did it twice in November .

Remember to take a uber XL if you have luggage . Most normal taxis in Delhi seem to run on CNG gas and hardly have any boot space.. Your luggage ends up on the roof !!! And won't be great if it rains etc.

These days I use MERU cabs from the prepaid taxi counter and found the service very good even though they cost slightly more than ola and uber ..

You have to walk over to the parking structure.

At one point Uber was trying out a system where you did not have a pre-assigned cab but just took the first waiting cab. Seemed a good idea for a busy airport, I don't know if they still have it. I don't recall how they handled the different cab sizes.

Pick-ups are no longer allowed at arrivals & you have to make your way to the parking area. Similar to how they do things in BOM. The walk is quite easy & will take you 2-3 minutes from when you get out of the terminal building.

That's okay then at DEL ... In COK the local taxi union doesn't even allow uber in the vicinity of the airport for pick up.

in fact it's worse even a non local taxi driver coming to pick someone up could end up in trouble.

A taxi driver who we have known for a very long time used his friend's private car and came to pick up a family member .The union members kicked up a fuss. So it's a bit like the CIA / MI5 .

We still don't know how they found that out. We suspect that they keep some database/ photos etc of taxi drivers who drop off people at the airport.

Prepaid taxi service at COK is run by families of those who gave up their land for the airport. I think that was the agreement at the time..So they are very territorial..

Have a trip planned and looking for help/suggestions on a transfer to Agra from Delhi and also the reverse after a couple of days stay. Would Uber in both directions be an easy option? Any input welcome.

Bumping this thread, as I'm interested in the same.

Uber 'intercity' is a good option. If you are doing a day trip with a visit to the Taj you are better off asking your hotel to organize a car with a driver and guide.

Would be around 2,000 - 2,500 minimum.

During my last visit to Mumbai I managed to not use any cash but only my credit card.

My problem is neither Uber nor Ola are accepting my credit cards.
In the Uber app, I can register them, but can't use them to pay.
In the Ola app, as soon as I want to register a credit card, I get the error message "Failure! Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

I don't have any problems with Uber or other apps in other countries, like Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore etc.

I will have another trip in February. Do you usually pay cash (both uber or taxis)?

My Visa CC works fine, but it was registered with the Uber app in the US and regularly used long before I used it in India. I could not use this Visa card with Ola but it did accept my AmEx, probably because AmEx has robust 2FA consistent with 3D Secure.

Uber & Ola have to comply with the Indian central banks directives of validating credit cards, so you are probably running into an authentication issue. https://www.uber.com/en-IN/blog/network-tokenisation/

Your only option is to add the credit card when in India to have a current token. I have given up on using my US/European credit cards with Uber in India and usually use the cash option. One workaround is to buy an uber gift card on the Uber India website and add it to your account. Make sure that you are on the Indian website before buying (the gift card is sold by Uber India Systems Private Limited & Pine Labs Pvt Ltd)

https://www.uber.com/in/en/gift-cards/

Amazon India also sells these at a 2% discount: https://www.amazon.in/Flat-checkout-.../dp/B07GCB9Y22
