YOu mean the hotel you are staying in Delhi wants to charge you $100 for trip to Agra in a taxi? Is it one way or round trip? I'd still take the express super fast train on executive chair seat and includes free breakfast and just about 2 hour and I think it is only around $10 per passenger. I haven't taken this train, I am going to. I only heared it is a good option. It is a feel and an experience! The taxi or auto riskshaw trip from your hotel to train station would be around $2 or 150 rupee the most. IGNORE THE TAXIS or CARS offered by your hotel that are rip offs. They charge you 200% more. |

I know that you can take an Uber to Chennai Airport (MAA), but can you take an Uber from Chennai Airport into town (in my case, the Hilton Chennai)?
Edited to add: The answer is "yes". What is the fare to and from the airport? The flat fare to and from the airport has been removed and is now calculated like any other Uber ride by the distance travelled and the time taken. The fare to the airport from most parts of the city is approximately ₹400-500. This includes an automated service charge of ₹ 100 (for pickup as well as drop) to account for cess, service and misc parking fees. As usual Uber riders are neither required nor expected to give any cash to the drivers. Earlier, the rates to and from the airport were fixed at a flat rate of ₹1,200. The reason for this was that the rides to the airport removed cars from the main service areas in the city and more often than not partner-drivers did not get return trips from the airport back into the city. In making this change we took into account rider feedback as well as our economics. As we scaled and improved our service in the city this change became feasible from a supply and economics perspective. At these rates anyone can enjoy an affordable Uber airport experience. Where can Uber be used in the city? Uber can be used anywhere within Chennai city limits and for the airport. We currently do not service areas outside Chennai, especially places like Mahabalipuram, Sriperambudhur, Pondicherry et al. |
Well nowadays just get the ola cab app and then you can book the taxi.

Uber works very well in New Delhi. I was just in New Delhi and spent almost 2 weeks there, I used my US based iPhone, and I was able to use my Uber app without any problems whatsoever. The only only problem is the driver has some difficulty calling you back because my number was an international dial from India

Mrs Up In The Air is travelling alone to Bangalore and is looking for taxi options. (She has travelled in India on a number of occasions and is confident, but wishes to have a plan for getting from the airport to Bengaluru.)
Does Uber operate from BLR to the city? Since the last postings, are there any new reliable taxi services that operate in India and from BLR? Any relevant info. or advice much appreciated. |
Uber and Ola are available. At peak times waiting time from landing can be 45 mins from arriving at the gate. I have never tried the ride later option which could be OK, if sure when taxi is required. The Airport taxis are good (better than either of the above in my opinion). All of the above will cost about INR 800-900 including toll to the centre, possibly more when busy traffic. Waiting time for Airport taxis in my experience is less than with Uber and Ola.
Generally I am met by the company vehicle, but late at night I sometimes book a taxi inside airport. There are many choices, waiting time 2-3 mins (if one has no vehicles go to the next) and cost about INR 1,600 including toll to the centre. |

(The concern is the possibility of arriving tired from a long flight and being approached by people touting unofficial taxis.) Where should my wife head to and what should she look out for when coming through arrivals? Again, any advice greatly appreciated. |
Before exiting the airport there are several companies with counters facing the exit. These are the companies that charge INR 1,600 incl toll. If I choose one of these companies I select one with minimal waiting time.
The Airport taxis are on the left hand side after exiting the airport. There is a single queue for 2 companies providing AC taxis. Both of the above are easy to locate and staff will assist if your wife is not sure where to go. I have never had a problem with taxi drivers coming from the airport, neither with taxi or rickshaw drivers in the city. Another option is to get a hotel pick up, which will probably cost more. |
No activity on this thread for a very long time! At Bangalore airport, I am curious to know whether it is better to opt for a metered public taxi or a prepaid taxi from or Ola / Uber, for an early evening arrival. Destination will be the ITC Windsor Hotel.

Best ride option at DEL
Hi all, what's the current thinking on best option from Del term 3 to Connaught area hotel? I haven't been to India in 10 years. Is Uber they way to go? Are prepaid taxis still a good option? Thx!
