This thread provides information, experiences and thoughts relating to the IB promotion in June 2018, whereby it was possible to get up to 90k bonus Avios for making Iberia bookings. The terms and conditions of this offer indicated that these bonus Avios needed to be used before 1 December. Consequently from 1 December 2018 Iberia has withdrawn Avios for at least some accounts. At least 1 person reported an account with a negative balance could be closed without problems.

It actually does matter. The whole point that you and some others are missing is that the points were still in my account which I believe is the best indication from Iberia that the promotion was not over given the vague T&C. If the T&C had said promotion is over at midnight ECT but it takes a few hours for our outdated IT systems to take back the points, that would have been fine, but they didn't. I acted in good faith. It's not my business to know how IB's IT systems work. I saw the points and assumed they are available to use. To most normal people when T&C say by Dec 1, it means by the end of the day Dec 1, not before the day has started.
Another question that still has not been addressed by the experts on this board is what would they do, if this is not a glitch and my balance stays negative. Since I didn't transfer the Avios to BA, they surely can't go after my BA account balance? Would they cancel my ticket in this case?

I wonder if they can just cancel those tickets issued on BAEC..

What I would do in your shoes is write to them saying that you spent the point of the redemption on their website, but still had your account go negative. I would not feel comfortable relying on that ticket, which could conceivably get cancelled (rightly or wrongly). If you can afford to wait, I would even wait a couple of weeks until the dust settles. But this is just guesswork.
You have basically used expired Avios in the short time window after they expired but before they actually eliminated them. I do not think we have any precedent for that.

Many good points, but IIRC Avios Group Limited is the subsidiary of IAG that also manages BAEC. I suspect that there are relatively few people who are willing to abandon BOTH IB+ and BAEC. (or trust that their brand new accounts will never end up audited) IIRC IHG caught a fair few duplicate accounts because people used the same credit card across more than one IHG account.

They may (though I certainly don’t know for sure) have considered an ‘appeal’ from you on December 1st itself. But it’s now the 3rd, and I fear your 180K are gone for good, as per the promo T&C’s.

When I read through last month's IAG Investors Day deck, I was hoping to find an update on the timeline on the planned migration to the common Avios platform. As far as I could make out, there wasn't any mention of this at all. The migration date has clearly slipped as it was originally planned to happen before the end of 2018

I first booked tickets on Iberia, 42,500 avios each. Had to cancel them in the middle of November due to a clash of dates with some other arrangements.
After the avios posted back in my account I transferred them to BAEC. Spent 30.000 just before the deadline on 1st of December and spent another 81.000 yesterday, after the deadline. My Iberia account shows -90.000. I suppose there is a chance they can claim back those 60.000.

I was convinced. Now, I'm not that convinced anymore, and I feel it has been dropped from IAGs plans, at least, for the foreseeable future.

Who is they? IB has no authority to cancel tickets that were booked through BAEC. And if somehow they are able to work with BAEC to make that happen, I believe that would be very, very bad for them. As in class action lawsuit bad.

People who use Whatsapp didn't necessarily expect that Facebook (as owner) would end up with their data. But it most certainly does because almost everybody agrees to T&Cs without reading them.

AGL are still in the process of winding down the Avios Travel Reward Programs. After closing the UK scheme earlier this year, the focus has now turned towards the ZA scheme which AGL recently announced will close on 31 May 2019. I suppose the planned migration of IB+ and BAEC onto the common Avios platform will follow soon after.
