Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

Hyatt Regency Waikiki

1. Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Honolulu
2. Connecting room. Two identically-sized standard rooms, the connector with a Queen Murphy Bed in it, plus a loveseat and additional chair. Both ocean-front. -09 & -10 rooms in the Ewa Tower.
3. I don't know sq. ft., but they were the standard sized rooms
4. Two std rooms, two std bath rooms.
5. Grade:
  • For the view: A+ -- full-on ocean-front
  • For a couple, desiring a suite with a nice living space with separate bedroom space: D (It was two rooms, one of which, with the Murphy Bed stowed, was a largely empty space.)
  • For a couple with kids, parents, close friends who want adjoining rooms for the price of one room: A
6. Here is a link to my post in the HR Waikiki thread with more details.

Additional Note: If you are a Diamond member, who desires Regency Club amenities and access, be careful. You could end up, as we did, in the opposite tower from the RC in order to accommodate the suite upgrade. Getting to/from the RC from high in the opposite tower is quite a process.

1. Grand Hyatt Tokyo
2. 11th floor Grand Executive Suite http://tokyo.grand.hyatt.com/hyatt/h...cale=&start=10
3. Approx 100 sq meters
4. 1 berdoom and 1 large bathroom
5. Very happy with the upgrade since it was on a redemption stay and also not on points (received a free night on one of the promotions being a diamond). I would give it a A- grade
6. High tech suite with multi-cd player, electronic shades, bose system and more.

The front office manager came to greet me in the check-in area and stated they have a special amenity for me in the suite, it was a bottle of red wine, 2006 California Merlot.

It was certainly one of my best Hyatt stays, too bad it was only for a few hours, i.e. late check-in and early check-out.

Can you elaborate on this? How did you book the Suite upgrade (calling the hotel, calling central reservations?)? Did they know when you booked it that this was a free night yet they still confirmed your upgrade? And you mention that this free night was not a points stay, but a free night. Are you talking about one of those free "Big Welcome" contest nights? Or a free night for making a stay when your acct had been inactive for some period of time? Or something else? Thanks in advance...........

Sure I can elaborate and answer some of your questions.

1. As per my post # 25 in this thread, I received a paper upg. certificate with my diamond package earlier in the year. Some FT's mentioned that I wouldn't be able to use my electronic upgs on redemption however they may be able to accomodate the paper upg certificate. I called the diamond desk to request my suite upgrade and the CS agent stated the paper upg also states that it cannot be used on redemption however she was OK making a request on my reservation and stated the hotel may upg me at their discretion without giving me an official confirmation. When checking in, the agent at the desk stated Mr. XXX we have you upgraded to one of our Grand Exec Suites on the 11th flr - without me prompting/requesting for the upg. I was also greeted by the front office manager which was very nice.

2. The free night was not on points stay however yes it was part of the "Big Welcome Sweepstakes" where Hyatt GP was giving away 10,365 free nights. There was a link with a simple skill testing question and I was on my way to receiving a free night.

cheers.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't read back to your Post #25 unfortunately.

I was hoping you'd been able to redeem one of your confirmed Suite upgrades on an award stay, but I thought that wasn't possible. I guess it's still not. Glad to hear you got a nice upgrade though using an old paper cert. Guess those things are still useful for something. ^

What happens if we cancel a booking that had been upgraded? Do we get the upgrade back or is it lost forever? I ask because I did cancel such a booking online, but my account still shows the upgrade credit with the name of the cancelled property. Guess I should call the res centre to fix it.
