They've removed most of the Cat 1s around major metropolitan areas (except for Texas).. seems like it's because many of us were using those properties to mattress run 5 or 10 nights if we were just short of Globalist for the year. Maybe they mistook that for actual demand? Who knows.

I've been waking up every morning this week dreading today is the day the category changes post. Trying to figure out some travel plans for later in the year and want to book some placeholders, but not firm enough yet on locations and dates. Need another 3-4 days before the announcement and the feeding frenzy on future bookings (me included in that).

Locked in Miraval Arizona for two nights. Not sure I’m really interested in anything else in the portfolio
Category 8
PH Kyoto - already tried RC Kyoto
PH Paris Vendome - already tried Prince de Galles, I probably would want Globalist to stay here though
PH Niseko - looks nice but I can't really justify this if I spend all day skiing
Alila Ventana Big Sur - very nice, review in thread
Everline Lake Tahoe - used to stay here when it was Resort at Squaw Creek, this should not be a Cat 8 but it was nice before price increases
Category 7
Alila Jabal Akhdar - do want to go but hard to plan, could be a good Prive candidate
Alila Maldives, Park Hyatt Maldives - already tried Waldorf Astoria Maldives
All-inclusives not sure if they are good

This may not be a popular idea but
I was too late to fill out the survey, but reading some of the GOH comments here and on Reddit, I really hope Hyatt will introduce spend requirement for Globalist and put restrictions on transfer of GOH with the program change.

Im shocked how optimistic people here about these changes resulting in less hotels moving categories each year or less hotels trying to game the system by creating room categories etc.
I dont expect any of that to stop or meaningfully improve. Theres zero evidence to support such thoughts, sadly.
its a continual race to the bottom and all Hyatt has to do is remain marginally better than Marriott Hilton and IHG, and thats exactly what they will do.

I get that this is a "but how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" observation that obscures the real valuable status but frankly being a fairly free agent on hotels I'd rather have more middling but still useful options in a lot of places that are attainable than great status made out of unobtainium,

The big misunderstanding starts with the term loyalty program. That is no coincidence. One of the core purposes of these programs is to add emotion to what is, in reality, a purely commercial relationship.
The truth is that there is no romance here. WoH wants your money. But we are not the innocent victim either. We are always looking for more attractive programs, and we have no hesitation in walking away and giving our business to someone else. And we can do that very easily. We are not married to WoH. There are no obligations when the relationship ends.
At the end of the day, it is a relationship in the here and now. Decide based on whether it works for you now. If it stops working, decide again. And if you keep making the same choice, there is only so much point in complaining.

If Hyatt comes out with a Globalist plus status, I hope they also make it a lifetime achievable status with 2million+ Qualifying point spend.
Best thing about Hyatts so far, 4PM late check out as the number 1 perk, breakfast perks, and actually upgrading Globalists (hit or miss). Unwritten perk, early check in when available, and hasn't failed over the past 2 years.
As for redemptions, I think they will end up matching Mr. and Mrs. Smith redemptions of 80K + per night for rooms in the future; I just spent 110-120k per night for MMS redemptions in Rome for their top suites. Matter of time before Hyatt points get devaluted even further.

Haha, not that many people can qualify for lifetime Globalist in 2 years like yourself🤣😭. Kidding aside, I was really jealous reading about what you did last year. But I found it really difficult to even spend $20k base point in a year with all the free nights and points redemptions! I suppose if you stay at all suites that is possible. But I also want to make it efficient to get base points, that is to spend $ at hotels with as little tax and service charge as possible.
