Thank you all. I may leave the doggo with a friend who dotes on her.

I just looked at the confirmation email. It has this in it:

SALES TAX: 10.500%
CA TOUR ASSEMENT: 0.195%
COUNTY TOUR ASSE: 7.00
SERVICE CHARGE: 105.00
Is the County Tour Assessment (?) and Service Charge applicable on points only booking? If so, is the fee shown for each night or for all nights in the reservation?

Hi everyone, planning to stay here in early November. Is November a good time to enjoy the hotel and the area around? I think the pools are heated, right? Thank you.

Pools are heated. Early November is a great time with fall weather assuming usual weather making hiking very nice (not like last year).

While the pools are heated, I honestly found them to be too cold, still. Visits in Jan 2022 and Mar 2023.

Hot tub of course was divine.

I've found very few people ever in the pools swimming... Lounging by the pool in swimsuits is what people usually do but I'm guessing it'll be too cold for that, unless you're used to it.

Hot tubs are a different story and can be enjoyed if you're in them.

Big Sur is very spastic temperature-wise, including in mid-late fall. We stayed at Ventana last year mid-December and it was in the high 60s, so we had a great time hanging out by the pools and swimming. The pools are definitely heated, but to that temperature where it's a bit uncomfortable getting in, then you feel perfectly fine once you've been submerged for 5 seconds.

I will be one night short of globalist before my 3-night stay at the Alila. Would a one-night mattress run for $150 be worth it for the chance of a better upgrade? We are already using an SUA to guarantee a suite.

I wouldnt do it unless you really value a hot tub over the big ones at the pool and the Japanese baths. Upgrades are iffy. Ive not gotten one half the time as a globalist. I prefer a forest view and I dont think there is a hot tub facing the forest other than the Cottage, which is way up the hill.

or use 5,000 points to book a category 1 property.
Id go for it. The Big Sur Suite is very nice, but a possible upgrade would be worth the 5,000 point roll of the dice.

Closest to me is 12k points or $150, so I feel like the nightly rare is probably a better call under the circumstances

Your upgrades will be dependent on who else is staying there. Explorists have been upgraded before and gotten nice places. It's probably not worth the trouble to get Globalist before this unless you want a cheap bottle of wine in your room.

We were upgraded to a shower suite when we went there in August as a globalist. I do kind of wish they explained the drink options more I feel like they were really pushing the alcohol and we don't really drink
