I recently had to get two Mastercard credit cards replaced due to potential fraud, which caused me quite a big headache. In neither case did they actually tell me what the source of the potential fraud was. I guess it might be this?

Right, those companies did the responsible thing.

You would hope they would follow in the footsteps of Hiltoj and Starwood who both experienced breaches in November. They offered one year of monitoring.

Hopefully we'll get more info about this in the coming days. Still a bit puzzling why they waited three weeks to release info about this.

Not good news. Wonder if this may have been responsible for some of the gift card fraud.

I wish Hyatt would post a list of the affected properties as well as the dates (to the extent that it's known when this happened--I presume we can assume that it was discovered and stopped shortly before the public announcement).

I guess the discovery isn't related to the system maintenance and the ending of the breach to the delay in bringing HGP systems back on line, or could this possibly be the case?

The announcement was somewhat cryptic, so they might not even know the full extent of it yet - or maybe they've hired one of the consulting firms and they're still collecting info.

Roughly half of the properties in N.A. are franchised (mostly select service brands like Hyatt Place).

Aren't they all Hyatt managed? Just owned by different companies then under management contract with Hyatt?

At this point -- after so many breaches -- credit monitoring should just be a standard benefit of being a card holder anywhere.

No email from Hyatt, apparently they have outsourced the notification task to the press.

Anyone was and still is able to sign up for these.

These won't help many!

At this point, I've gotten pretty numb to credit card data breaches. It was novel a couple of years ago; today, it's getting 'normal' for company databases to get hacked.

Sad but true. It has gotten so rampant now that now almost every day I check out my accounts online to make sure nothing is amiss.

Mere credit card stuff hasn't really registered for me ever since an employer had their payroll files hacked and the end result was people having thousands taken out of their bank accounts, (banks and credit unions were really quite good at putting the money back once the police reports were filed) people having credit cards and utilities taken out in their names, tax return fraud, all kinds of fun stuff until you get everything credit and IRS-related totally locked down.

I had 3 unarthorized charges on my Hyatt card on Wednesday. The card has not been used for several months except for a reservation made about 2 months ago for the Hyatt Regency Chicago for tomorrow.

MasterGeek Dec 24, 2015 2:17 pm

That's despicable. I demand free credit monitoring with unlimited credit report updates

Considering that it's a Chase card, that's par for the course with them. My Chase cards get hit frequently.

It's really strange... A stay I had last Saturday had been pending on my American Express and as of today is gone ... but a stay I had 14 days ago is still listed as a pending transaction on my AMEX, has not posted as a charge.

The data breach and the system maintenance fiasco, Hyatt is going to take a hit.
I have not called gold passport because I thought things will work out, but now I'm not so sure.

Hyatt has been missing in action, poor to no updates, leaving customers hanging and confused.

I've canceled and moved my 7 night stay next week and will continue to cancel Hyatt stays until things clear up.
