We just got back from Ziva-We were already in Cancun so I called the front desk the day before. We also booked 4 nights on points and as explorist we were offered an automatic upgrade to oceanfront room in Pyramid building. I asked if there were anymore options and he offered us an upgrade to the Turquoise bldg for $50.00 a night based on our status. Without status he said our upgrade would be $150.00 a night. The best experience we ever had at a Ziva/Zalara. Try for 3rd floor and get Ilse as your butler- she was amazing! One big negative though- our first room(on 3rd floor) the jacuzzi was full of mildew and mold in the pipes. We were in it when it all came out. Really disgusting!! They moved us to the 6th floor the next day. Also all rooms seem to have a problem with the drawers smelling like mildew-both our rooms did- we kept our clothes on the shelves instead. Plenty of storage in the closet system. Food was outstanding for an all inclusive. If I was in the pyramid, I would ask for oceanfront at the opposite end of the Habaneros restaurant( much quieter with less kids). We will be back!!

We're headed to the Ziva Cancun at the end of January. We booked on points (resort view) and the hotel definitely has capacity based on current rates. For those who visited recently, what room upgrade options were offered (i.e, cost to upgrade to ocean view, club room, turquoise tower, etc.). Thanks in advance for the info.

Lincoln-- thanks for the info. That's my situation (Discoverist status). I used the email address in an earlier post to enquire about options but haven't heard back. Might be best to wait until check-in. Going Sunday-Thursday and it appears that there's a ton of availability.
STLBeerMan-- I haven't been to either one, but I read a ton of reviews for both. Everything I read gave Ziva the edge when it came to the beach/grounds and Zilara the edge in terms of "standard" rooms. And both have better weather compared to Missouri and Iowa

I just got back (loved it btw) and I have Discoverist status and as a member they offered me an upgrade to the Turquoise rooms (just myself and my wife were there) for $50 per night. I declined and they gave me the room for free anyway.
Rooms for very big (and nice!) and access to the roof top pool was were we hung out a lot. Probably worth the $50 per night.

I too am merely Discoverist, and prior to arrival this past November, having booked a Club Room, I emailed them and advised them that this would be my 4th visit (blah, blah..)and I would 'appreciate' any sort of upgrade. At arrival I was immediately escorted to the Turquoise Tower with no mention of additional charges.

I am hoping to get so advice on what you believe would be best for me. Me and my girlfriend are going to Ziva for a full week in June, I already called up and booked for the week in a standard room and inquired about a suite upgrade using points, I was offered an upgrade to either the Club Ocean Front Corner Suite or the Pyramid Suite for 6,000 points a night. I choice the Corner Suite for now but she said I can change it by calling in. But now I am thinking if I should be trying to stay in the Turquoise Tower? Me and my girlfriend are in our young 20s although not much of a party type. I would like the best room possible and hope to get some insight from you all!

I believe you will enjoy the Club Ocean Front Corner Suite vs a standard room in the Turqouize tower. After many visits there, I have come to the conclusion that Club tower is the best (unless you are someone who wants access to the Turqouize adults-only pool).

MommyPoints has a good write up on the Pyramid Suite. Google her site for it and you should be able to get a better idea about it.
