Airport Transportation
The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.
Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.
For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.
AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).
I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).
UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.
Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Thanks for the info everyone. I still have not quite made up my mind due to the mixed reviews I hear about the GH.
Many people have said that this property does not upgrade Diamonds. I will contact the hotel regarding that, and if that is in fact the case, I will not be staying at the GH. As a Diamond member I refuse to pay a premium for a room upgrade and club access. If there are rooms available, I expect to be upgraded at any Hyatt.
The FS has offered me a substantial room upgrade and free breakfast.

What is the current policy at the hotel, and what have people been finding themselves?

You get two apples and a welcome card. If you whine and bellyache they might give you a key chain. Repeat visitors to the hotel get the t-shirt and other things (free dinner) after a certain number of stays.

Not worth whining and bellyaching, but am curious what qualifies you as a repeat visitor?

They keep track of your number of stays, and as lovtofly3 has reported, after 10 stays you get something (dinner?), etc.
I think if we all complained politely they would become a compliant hotel and offer a welcome amenity. Afterall, we already forego a choice of 1k pts. as a welcome amenity at international properties. The GH Seoul is another non-compliant hotel though I haven't stayed there recently.
I have even shown the hotel staff on the executive floor the Diamond amenities brochure. They asked to borrow it and then slipped it under my door the next day. This was more than three years ago!

At a Hyatt with a club floor, I expect a club room if available.
I also do have a Diamond welcome kit suite upgrade certificate. Has anyone been able to use those at this hotel?
It sounds like FS is a better choice. What I want is a luxury hotel with personalized service (like a Park Hyatt or a very good Grand Hyatt like GH Tokyo or GH Hong Kong) based on what I hear here it does not sound to me like that is what GHEB is.
I frankly do not need or want a keychain or a free shirt from a hotel. I also don`t expect to have to fight or complain to a hotel to get them to honor T&C.

Will I likely get an upgrade from Standard King room to a club King room, or at least to a higher room category if no club rooms are available?

Mike, You will get a club floor if available.
I've used a suite ug at the hotel before.
As BKKROP says you can check-in on the club floor is you're a Diamond, unless it's late at night, in which case you need to key the elevator and the lounge is closed anyway.
Good luck. Take care.

For paying less I get the following benefits at the SGS:
1. Breakfast buffet at the main restaurant or Sala during the cool season
2. Complimentary soft drinks/hot beverages at the Library
3. Complimentary happy hour beverages at Sala, Library, or BarSu from 6PM to 8PM
4. All day butler service that I mainly use for bringing tea, coffee, iced tea whenever I want
5. Complimentary internet access
6. Complimentary newspaper via NewspaperDirect printing service that carriers hundred of newspapers around the world
+ as a Platinum I have always been upgraded to a two room suite there. I have see no reason to stay at the GH as long as they don't upgrade me to a suite.

I have never had that... !
I guess I should bring this matter up. My next stay tomorrow would be # 200 something, or the 333rd room night since 1995.

[QUOTE=holtju2;11432223]Why should I be impressed?
For paying less /QUOTE]
I pay 9157 including both taxes at SGS, and nobody knows me, so I get little in extras compared to you, but not taking anything away from the SGS, the rooms are superb, also the bathrooms are huge, the dvd collection is always available, the 25% OFF rate at the moment is just so good, hard to believe they will run it through to October and it's close to skytrain, The only problems I have with SGS are, I feel unsettled how security allows the girls in for breakfast and the small pool is heavily treed and in the shade. Of all the Bangkok hotels, I prefer the old IC, where I have to pay full odds, but if I get our MEL hyatt Asian regional manager to book the hotel itinerary ahead for me, the accomodation is first class, the GH's IMO are superb and...
Guy Betsy, no dinner for me either, but I think I do alright, anyway after the lounge spread in the evevings I very rarely eat anything. regards bkkrop
