Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

You will get club access as a diamond no matter what rate you book.

I'm not sure of the suite you will get, but you can book a refundable rate and find out using your e-ug's. Good luck.

Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Hi Frequent_Flyer1, just used a suite upgrade last weekend on a rate of only US$198 which I thought was very good, so I stored the points and paid cash, and used one of the last upgrades. I was given a corner suite on the 19th floor, club lounge is on the 17th, and my initial reaction was that the suite was a tad tired, and not up to the usual Hyatt standard. However at the end of the stay, I was pleased with it, it was comfortable and everything worked. It was a standard suite layout, powder room on your right as you enter into a large loungeroom with flatscreen and all the gismos, and at the end in an alcove was a study office desk area. From this room you enter the bedroom which had a day bed at one end, a duplication of the television and sound equipment, walkin robe and the main bathroom was situated behind the robes and mirrors. The suite had 2 a/c which suited us, so we were able to have a cold (it was 38 outside) reception area, yet a warmer sleeping room. The club floor food is exceptional in the evenings and whilst interesting during the mornings , we found the downstairs breakfast area may be vital if you are brought up on an egg breakfast and like to partake of some bacon or ham. The evenings were magical. The club crew do a wonderful job, this trip was not only hurried but we needed some assistance, and they handle it all so professionally. What would I suggest? I loved the snacks at the club, loved the spa, the pool was a joy to use with iced drinks and tasty morsels to ward off the hunger pains and by checkout, both of us were very at ease with the suite and as a "package" it left us relaxed. I am familar with the IC and would say their suites are brighter and flashier, but I have never been a fan of their club. The key to my love of the BKK Hyatt in particular is, that our flights from AU arrive at 5am and depart for home at midnight. The club floor takes it all in their stride, they check us in and out, never any sarcastic remarks about the required checkin times, and we are greeted like old friends. regards bkkrop

I stayed in a spa cottage a few months ago for four nights while on vacation in Thailand. I really enjoyed the stay and liked the relaxing atmosphere of the spa cottage and having direct access to the swimming pool area from the cottage.

The spa cottages are one bedroom suites with living rooms, spacious in suite spa treatment rooms, and spa style bathrooms with steam shower and free standing bathtubs.

A spa cottage reservation includes one spa treatment per person per day. The treatments were nice, but nothing special. If you are a fan of Thai massage, I would recommend using the spa`s other treatment room for that rather than doing it in suite. The reason for this is that the suite only has european style massage table(s), and IMO a Thai massage should be given on a mattress on the floor to allow for the movements necessary for a proper Thai massage.

The spa cottages also have nice private terraces that are accessed through the bedroom. The terraces are nice for room service breakfast as well as to relax in the evening. The one drawback to the terraces is the traffic noise which cannot be helped due to the hotel`s downtown location. Nevertheless, it is nice to have the private terrace.

Spa cottage guests are entitled to use the Grand Club, but I did not use it much at all because room service breakfast and evening cocktails are provided in the cottage. Also, when staying in a spa cottage the isewan spa concierge will handle everything form checkout to guest requests, etc.. There is no need to deal with the club concierge.

Great. Thanks for the reply. Based on your review, I think i'm gonna go for the spa suites at Hua Hin instead of the Bangkok spa cottages.

I thought you could get 1,000 amenity points only at hotels in North America.

Staying at this hotel for the first time tonight because of FFN and 5.5k UA miles. I have used the suite UG certificate and I got assigned to a grand suite on the 19th floor. The suite is very nice and spacious. The only disappointment is the bath amenities. I was expecting something nicer than those regular ones of the Hyatt brand.

You don't get the 1000 amenity points at international properties.
At least I never have.

Enjoy the suite.

I was thinking to switch 1 nite to the Erawan for the same reason the 5500ua miles, but prices are so high one when compares to any SPG property in BKK.
Still thinking

I agree THB7,000++ a night is quite expensive for BKK when other competitors offer less than half the cost. But FFN + UA5500 are still too good to pass up!! Their food during cocktail hours is great, probably the best in BKK. You have to limit yourself from eating if you still want to go out for dinner.

The rules state that the 1000 amenity points is an option for US, Canada and Caribbean properties; however, I received the amenity bonus twice, this year, at international properties. Perhaps that was a mistake, but it had never happened before.

I was surprised at the rates for the Erawan, but it's tough to argue with Suite upgrade, FFN, and a great property.

Their breakfast in the club lounge is a bit disappointing for me because they do not have salad, rice, and noodles while most hotels in Thailand do. Some of us like to have noodles and salad for breakfast to start the day off. Their coffee is great though.

They sometimes do offer fried rice for breakfast in the lounge. This morning, they had fried rice with shrimp, which was very good! Does anybody know if they allow Diamonds to take breakfast downstairs?

I noticed today that they have a smoking room in the club lounge. It is across the corridor from the lounge entrance. I did not notice last time because the entrance is so small and usually closed.

The complimentary breakfast is the one in the club (re-confirmed yesterday); however, should a Diamond not be granted club access because of high demand (although I've never experienced that, here) then, as per current DIA GP rules, full breakfast downstairs would be comped.

Yes Kats the smoking room is just beyond the computers and is cleaned and sprayed after each use. pdb is correct about the breakfast, and don't getto upset if they ask you to sign something, it's just their way of accounting. The club room will fix anything like that up when you are checking out. I have had that fried rice, very enjoyable, regards bkkrop

I'm fighting with the same (price per night) issue. I can stay at the IC for a bit more then half that rate and will also get a Club room, free minibar, internet, and double points. I'm tempted by Hyatt FFN and suite upgrade though (no UA for me), but not sure if it is worth almost double the money as I may not be able ot use the one FFN gained in some expensive Hyatt or Park Hyatt. Hmm decisions, decisions ...

I like the suites at the GH Erawan, and think that paying for a standard room and using a suite upgrade is an exceptional value.

On the other hand, if you just want a club room it sounds like you might be better off at the IC.

True. well I could also get a suite at the IC but then no club access. I got a better rate at the Hyatt through our corp travel agent so now it is not that much of a difference any longer. Rooms are booked and suite upgrades requested, but still pending. Not sure how long it takes to get a yes or no answer via Goldpassport. They said they would email me. Oh well fingers crossed. Thanks.
