for those not completing the 12 nights in 60 stays requirement, my experience is the gratis match continues for another 30d days. Meaning, the match gets you 90 of being treated like a diamond.

I absolutely agree with you. Can't believe they stopped the once in a lifetime status match. I was waiting until just b4 applying for the Hyatt Chase card (I just got another Chase Card, the Ritz-Carlton), so I am not very likely to get a 3rd chase card any time soon, until my balances are at zero.

At any rate, I just can't believe this. Oh well, guess the answer is that one should grab while the grabbing is good. I did do a Marriott/Ritz Platinum Challenge right before they stopped doing instant status matches (8 stays in 4 months) and they have been getting all of my business, and instead of going to a bed and breakfast in Santo Domingo I will be going to the SDQ Renaissance whenever I can. They treat me very nicely, without it feeling phony.

Hang on, are you saying Hyatt are no longer offering the Diamond Challenge?

Reading terms and conditions of the Diamond Challenge, it reads only once per member per offer. I don't think once in a lifetime was ever the case, just misunderstood.

Hyatt is still offering the Diamond Challenge.

I called GP last week to see if they would extend my challenge beyond 60 days as I have 6 nights booked during the following 2 weeks. Alas no dice (disappointing, but expected).

After much internal debate I decided to do a last minute 5 night mattress run to meet the 12 EQN challenge. For me the critical component was the fall bonus as my total cost is @$600 but I will receive a 15k fall bonus + roughly 4k stay points which is close to enough for a Cat 7 free night.

Hopefully Hyatt Diamond will not be as disappointing as Marriott Plat. So far no spectacular upgrades at checkin but I do take some comfort that the suite certs will deliver as promised. And lounge access will be a plus.

Worth the mattress run for Diamond.

You received the suite upgrades when you signed up for the Challenge (on commencement of the Diamond Challenge). In bold above, sounds like you didn't know you had the suite upgrades to use? Its in your account right now to use.

I have similar experiences.. The upgrades aren't usually spectacular, but I always stay in a suite and don't expect an upgrade in suites. But I'm really happy with the Hyatt GP program overall.

I just created a wiki which should provide FT's the basic information for Diamond status challange. I have search the Hyatt forum and looks like this would be the best thread for it but I have not found information on the current offer. Can someone update the wiki with the current information or just respond to my post and I will update it?

Hyatt Tier (Status) Matching (Challenge) Information - 11/10

I will very likely not renew Diamond (only at 9 stays) this year. I have done the challenge two years ago. I will end up this year as SPG Plat 75 as most of my travels were in non Hyatt locations.

Is my understanding correct that I would be able to do the challenge again ? In which case I won't bother with a desparate attempt to close the gap in 2013, and rather request the challenge in Q1 or Q2 when the diamond status has expired. Does this approach make sense ?

They were offering the challenge this year, even to those who had participated before.... so who knows what they will do next year, but it's quite possible they will do so again.
Not much of an alternative, 16 stays in 2 months would be a bit excessive for most.

16 stays!? It was only 12 nights when I did it last year...

Hyatt Tier (Status) Matching (Challenge) Information - 11/10

I will end up at min 11 stays but could somewhat easily do 17. 25 would be a stretch from there indeed. I am wondering if doing 17 over 11 would buy any goodwill ?

Anything is possible with direct negotiation, but I would think your chances slim.

Ah. I obviously confused that with the challenge.
