Dear Mr. XXX:

Thank you for contacting Hyatt Gold Passport Customer Service. I
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

To attain Diamond tier with the Gold Passport program, your statement
with a competitor must show at least ten (10) stays or thirty (30)
nights accrued in order for the tier match to be processed. As your
account summary shows 0 stays and nights, unfortunately we are unable
to offer the Diamond tier match at this time.

Please let me know if I may assist you further. Thank you for your
continued support of the Hyatt Gold Passport program.

Sincerely,

XXXX XXX

Bad move for Hyatt b/c my friend (who's not very in to the whole points/status thing yet) just found out that he will basically stay in hotels about 3 nights a week for the next year or so. He already had 12 business stays booked through them over the next month but canceled immediately. He'll likely now give his business to Hilton since he only needs to stay 3 times with them to keep Gold and easily move up to HHonors Diamond. He emailed Hyatt to have them reconsider but has yet to hear anything back.
Yes, I just received the same email response, although the Gold Rewards rep I spoke with on Monday night did not say there was a minimum stay requirement from the competitor. The only reason I was pursuing this was because I'm starting a new opportunity in a few weeks that will require about 80-95 nights of travel each year. Hopefully Hyatt will reconsider, otherwise I'll continue with Hilton.

Did anyone get Hyatt to reconsider a denial?

Thanks!

If your reconsideration does not go through, I'd say put in your time with Hilton and then send another request to Hyatt after you've met the requirements. The 10 stays/30 nights requirement is small enough that it would still leave you with plenty of time to enjoy Diamond benefits for the remainder of your 80-95 nights and next year.

Good luck! ^

Once again, it needs to be reiterated that a status match is not a right but a privelege.

I, for one, agree with Hyatt GP that comped status, is inadequate for a status match. Gold status with SPG, Hilton etc. can be obtained easily. What is the incentive for Hyatt GP to waste 4 Suite upgrade e-certs, and provide other perks for someone who has 0 stays in a competitor's program?

My buddy just heard back about his reconsideration:

We appreciate your loyalty to Hyatt. We have to stick by our terms and
conditions of our promotion. Your statement does not have to show 10
stays or 30 nights within the last year, but we do need to see some type
of stay history on the competitor statement.

So it appears you just need to show SOME LEVEL of activity and the HHonors Gold status; IMO that's pretty darn fair.

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who write to hotels with the promise of staying at their hotels for X months out of the year and they ask for status before completing one night. For every person who is legit, there is probably another person out there who is trying to game the system. The hotel has no way of knowing whether someone is lying or not. If they lose the business, so be it.

I agree with you that this is totally fair and not unreasonable at all. Have your friend put in some time with Hilton and try again later with Hyatt. It will be worth it, IMO.

I agree with Hyatt's decision. Hilton is giving away Gold status for just having a Visa Signature credit card. Hyatt will match someone with earned status but I would say that they have wisely chosen to see some credible travel activity to justify the "status" earned with a competitor before granting a status challenge.

How can I get Hyatt Diamond Status? I am currently Platinum but really want to have Diamond Status for my trip to PH Vendome next month. Do have SPG Gold, Amex PLAT, and CO Pres. Plus - all of which seem useless at this point...

Any ideas??

... or the 50 nights. The only "way" is to request a Diamond trial via status match (which is still on-going). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you have SPG Plat.

Who knows? It depends on where you are willing to go, what day of the week you are checking in, what day of the week you are checking out, etc. This formula varies between each hotel and can be even based on time of day. I've setup a few hotels before (computer and configuration-wise using the same software Hyatt uses), and that rate table can get REALLY complex.

Based on my travels, i've seen rates as low as $89. I'm sure a Hyatt in the middle of no-where and/or next to a small airport would probably be cheap.

They just approved this for me last week, and it took 2 days for my online status to show up as Diamond. I emailed them to confirm the benefits during the 60-day trial period, with the following response from Hyatt:

"In response to your inquiry regarding the Diamond Trial Offer benefits,
during your trial period, you will receive all of the same benefits of a
Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond member."
