Doing web-in early won't necessarily give you a room any earlier if the property is busy - but they usually will send you an e-mail saying that your allocated room is actually ready (when it becomes ready).

Hmmm, I always assumed if you were checked in via web-checkin it meant that you were actually checked in and you could go pick up your room keys and access your room anytime after that, even if at 10AM. Is this assumption wrong? If so, why do they call it web-CHECKIN and not web-precheckin or something similar?

I've never done web check-in but was wondering if one booked a prepaid rate and had to cancel, i.e. no show, by checking in this way would you at least get stay credits and points? (Not expecting $ back on a prepaid.) Would you actually get a e-check out email if you never collected a keycard at the front desk?
I realize if this were indeed the case, we could all start doing Mattress Runs to various HPs in Denver to earn our points, free "every 2 stays" rooms, and stay credits for status!

You must visit the Hyatt Express Check-In Kiosk or the front desk on the scheduled date of arrival and physically occupy the assigned guest room. Failure to visit the Hyatt Express Check-In Kiosk or the front desk may result in your room being released as an early departure, and your payment card being charged one night's room accommodations. These stays are considered phantom stays. Phantom stays are not eligible for Hyatt Gold Passport points, credit toward tier status or participation in bonus points or other promotional offers. A phantom stay is described as a stay where a guest uses Hyatt Web Check-In or 1-800-CHECK-IN to check into a hotel but does not physically stay at the hotel.

No - doing web-in and not showing up will not work for stay credit.
HP & SS don't have web-in anyways. "Most" FS Hyatts do though domestically.
