Cheaptickets seems to "permanently" be offering 18%. That's a good thing -- it's the most consistently reliable hotel website deal.

Their codes haven't been working on the hotels I've wanted lately. Orbitz 15% always seems to work though. And I'm not talking big chains.

Yea, the cheaptickets site and code are pretty decent, I have used it in Malaysia, in Russia and various other countries and it works even in Four Seasons and other luxury hotels. I have saved a lot. At this point basically it is the only OTA I use for hotels, I don't bother with any of the other weak discounts. I either book directly with the hotel for chain hotels that I have status in, or cheaptickets for non chain hotels, that's it.

The usual general terms.

OCTOBER
Subject to the restrictions set out in these terms and conditions, the 18% promotion code may be applied to a qualifying stand-alone hotel (not a hotel booking in combination with any other product such as flight + hotel, or flight +hotel + car) booked online with cheaptickets.com between October 3, 2016 12:01AM CT and October 9, 2016 11:59PM CT, for 1 or more nights for travel between October 3, 2016, and March 31, 2017. Qualifying bookings instantly receive 18% off at check-out through the use of the promotion code. Limit one discount per hotel room and one promotion code per itinerary. Exclusions may apply and most major hotel chains are excluded. The promotion code cannot be redeemed against taxes, supplier fees, cancellation or change fees/penalties, administrative fees or other miscellaneous charges, which are the sole responsibility of the customer. Discounts are not redeemable for cash for any reason. Promotion codes are non-transferable, not for resale, and cannot be combined with other offers or used for any booking previously made. Any attempt at fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Cheaptickets reserves the right to change or limit the promotion in its sole discretion. Usual booking terms and conditions apply (see https://www.cheaptickets.com/p/info-other/legal.htm) and all bookings are subject to availability.

Obviously, it's impossible to know whether the CheapTickets discount code will work until you try it. But when the rates are the same (and they usually are), I first try to book there. If it's a non-chain and you can prepay it tends to work for me.

But this only works with the 18% discount code from my experience.
If it's only 10% discount or less, than booking.com, agoda etc. are most often cheaper for me. This is because of the fee cheaptickets is adding to the displayed rates.

I've been using Cheaptickets and the code in Australia and have gotten some great deals. There are a number of places in California that I regularly book through Cheaptickets as well, but I also routinely use the Wyndham code/link in the Wiki for their properties.

It is a PITA that now you have to click through all the way to the booking page to see if the Cheaptix codes work for a given hotel, though.

It's all a game, though, up to each person how much he values his time looking for the best rate.

I do use Cheaptickets and Orbitz, which are the same company, with their codes at times, but often find that their pre-discount rates are so much higher than the smaller, (often non-US based) OTAs that 15 or 18% off is not necessarily the best deal. So the 15-18% "permanent" discount is a bit of a game. It's often like the artificial discounts at large department stores.

The 18% cheap ticket code makes you create a new email address each time, at least if you are booking multiple locations with the same code before a new code comes out.

I've not found this to be the case. Sometimes a cheaper deal exists, but it often has a more restrictive cancellation policy. If your suggestion is that all of the major US sites have more expensive rates, that might be true with respect to certain markets, but Cheaptickets isn't consistently higher than the US OTAs that dont typically have promo codes.

The bottom line is this: plenty of us have found value with the code with minimal effort. No one is saying it will work on every property, or will always yield the absolute lowest price. But enough of us have had positive experiences that the posts bashing the site as useless, terrible, etc., are questionable and unnecessarily discouraging. Of course you should always compare prices across multiple sites, but that has nothing to do with a cheaptickets code.

Not for me, and I use them often.
