Yep - but it has to be done over the phone. Just let them know when you book that you want to wait and book the reward certificate later, and then go online and do it when you're ready.

Brarob,
If U have a friend with $50 in e-rewards funny money, s/he can put 3K HHonors points in your account instantly. 2500 Mypoints becomes 2500 HHonors, but many people have waited > 1 month for it to arrive . See the thread in the S.P.A.M. forum.
If U are a basic HHonors member, U can get 15 PP$ by choosing Points & Points. Do U have a valid reason to spend $167 on a Hilton room? (Not worth a mattress run.)
Otherwise just buy 3K points for $37.50 or 10K for $100, in which case U will have enough to spare for an Opportunity-level Hampton Inn.

Mypoints is a great option. Assuming that there are things that the vendors there are selling that you need -- 2500 points can come pretty fast. Office Depot for example is a very fast way to get 4000 pts with just a $400 purchase. It beats buying points from hilton because you are (theoretically) getting stuff you need with your $.

Another option: Many FFP airlines miles including AA convert 1:2 to Hilton HHonors points. More details here.

I successfully transferred my Continental Airlines mileage to Amtrak account and then from Amtrak Account to HHonors account for 30,000 HHonors Points. It took about 2 weeks for the Continental Airlines to arrive Amtrak and took 5 weeks for the points in HHonors to show up.

More tips and "formulae" can be found on this site:

Good Luck!
