Don't consider any of the city hotels to be offers at all...Pretty incredible to see Glasgow Garden in at £135 and the two Hiltons at £139. They are really milking it for this Commonwealth Games Year, further proved by Hilton Glasgow opting out of the quarter promotion.

I wish them luck continuing that revenue strategy next year. £135 is simply too much for those hotels. Hilton Glasgow lounge is really poor now, with no spirits.

£129 for Edinburgh Airport, the rooms are badly in need of a refurb there.

Aberdeen Treetops at £119?! Wow, that hotel is a bit of a shocker and is regularly available for £50 or so.

bear in mind these are all (excluding a 1 or 2) dinner inclusive rates.

Assuming £50 for the Treetops is just room only?

...not that I'm saying any of these are great deals.

Trip to scotland

Hi folks......im about to leave for a short trip to Scotland......start tomorrow doubletree Newcastle then Hilton Glasgow then WA Edinburgh then Hilton leeds.
Staying one night in each , I wondered what to expect of Scotland?.....im well travelled in the uk but only been to Scotland a couple of times mainly on tour with my band and it was a case of playing a gig before the tour bus moves on to the next city......ive never really had the chance to have a look around......im looking for restaurant recommendations , any hotel tips ( good rooms to request),and any general ideas?...... my girlfriend and I have no set plans and we are viewing this trip as an adventure, we leave tomorrow .....thanks in advance....wizla.

I'm staying at the Hilton Glasgow Sunday night. I usually request a Exec room upgrade, and often get it. We normally go on quieter days though e.g. Sundays. The corner exec room are a bit bigger, but outside of that they are mostly all the same.

Have plenty of restaurants to try. What do you like? There are some amazing indians in Glasgow.

The Caley in Edinburgh is a nice hotel. Castle view rooms are good to get, but they can be noisy from Lothian Road traffic noise. Doesn't bother me much though

If you are asking questions about Scotland then you will probably get better responses in the UK and Ireland forum. There is quite a bit of information there and active posters.

For example, for Edinburgh see these threads:

And see:

I personally would say eating in the Hilton Glasgow's restaurant would be a waste of a good opportunity

http://www.shenaz.co.uk/
http://www.bukharah.com/ (quite new I think, went a few months ago was great. Good deal on 5pm.co.uk)
http://cafeindiaglasgow.com/
Also some great ones further in the West End.

City taxis are dirty cheap, max £5 to any of the above from the Hilton.

If it's Sunday you're there may well see you (assuming we get an upgrade, we are there on P&C £32) !

The exec lounge afternoon tea is normally a decent spread. The evening canapés can vary hugely!!

As you know I did these hotels last week too

Hilton Glasgow is an easy walk to the centre and Glasgow is hilarious. Lots of giggles to be had. The exec lounge is a bit like a 1970's youth club minus the ping pong table. No windows so it's a bit grim.

WA Edinburgh, was a bit more sober because I was there on a Sunday, but lots of cool looking eats up the side of the hotel a couple of blocks. Along the main road with the trams is a bit dull. I got lots of nice benefits as a gold, two bottles of water, a mini bottle of wine, a fig, an orange, an apple, a plum, free breakfast and a castle view upgrade.

Internet at both places is rubbish

Happy birthday wizla

I know a very good Indian (Bangladeshi) restaurant in Edinburgh.
Kismot.
http://www.kismot.co.uk
Fantastic food, nice people with a great sense of humour ( I mispronounced the Scottish drink 'Irn Bru' when ordering and the waiter had a laughing fit and couldn't look at me for the rest of the evening without laughing ).
No alcohol served but you can bring as far as I know and small restaurant so best to call for a reservation.

Hello from Edinburgh

As helosc the Kismot is very good but is BYOB and is a little of the beaten track if you don't know the city. If you do go there don't attempt the "Kismot Killer" unless you want to end up in the Royal Infirmary - the staff serve it wearing a gas mask!

Another Indian that is exceptional is Brittania Spice and is down in Leith (From the WA the 22 bus will take you straight there.

Kyloe is just a few doors from the WA and serves some of the best steaks in Edinburgh

If you like Italian I recommend Giuliano's with the one at The Shore being much better IMO. Again the No 22 bus will take you straight there.

And of course if you fancy traditional Scottish it has to be The Witchery but booking is almost essential for that one.

If you want anymore Edinburgh info just give me a shout.
