Tips
Curious to hear from others on who you tip at Hilton, and how much.
I tend to tip the guys helping us with the luggage and those who bring the food tray to our room. Usually 2 pounds, Euros or Dollars.

In AU, zilch. In US, $1 per bag, the normal 15-20% for food and drinks service and the house keeper depends what quality service you want, $2 per day will get your room serviced but give them an extra good tip on day one and you will reap the rewards for the whole stay

I tip housekeeping everywhere (on the last day).
2 1/2 - 3 per night.
If I leave my luggage in the hotel before check-in or after check-out, I tip when I collect, 4-5 .
I don't get help with my luggage otherwise and I don't use room service.

If you're going to fall into the trap of tipping housekeeping, tip every day so you actually might benefit. Also, different housekeepers may work each day.

I am curious to understand what are the benefits you get from tipping the housekeeping staff? Apart of course from the feel good factor of tipping the otherwise "transparent" staff.

I'm curious to know why you care what total strangers leave housekeeping, are there not enough tipping debate threads on the internet?

Given that the OP listed currencies in the order of "pounds, Euros, or Dollars", I am guessing that the OP is not U.S.-based and is genuinely curious about something that might not necessarily be second nature.

But I tip housekeeping because they have a hard job and make almost no money. Most are women supporting families. I don't know of any "cause" better than that.

I don't tip housekeeping in order to benefit from it - I expect to get the service I am supposed to get automatically (and I do).
I tip them because it is a very low paid job in many countries.
(I also leave my room nice and tidy to make their work easier).
But the remark about tipping everyday because of different staff is a good point - I have considered this but decided to do it only once at the end of my stay - partly because it is easier and partly because I'm not very comfortable with tipping in general and don't want it to seem like I expect to benefit from it.

How do you a tip for the housekeeper? Cash on the desk with a note that says tip?

Sometimes they make it easy and leave an envelope with their name.
