I am currently scheduled to be a guest at this hotel property later this month...

I stayed here last year on a free night certificate and got zero Diamond benefits. I even had to email them to get the 1000 myway points - and by the time they replied, my claim with Hilton was already approved.

Granted they were charging a ridiculous (even for Iceland) US$1000 for the night I was there at the time of booking, I perhaps should be grateful that there was still standard award availability!

Breakfast was excellent, but everyone gets it anyway, and it had better be excellent if you're charging $1000.

The bathroom section was very large compared to the overall size of the room. Also, these awkward bits of wall (not sure if structurally necessary or just part of design) significantly reduced the space around which one could walk:

Will I stay again? As a non-US resident, I can't earn silly amounts of Hilton points for spending a few bucks on a credit card, so likely only if there is a good paid rate (which to me means the low 30000s of ISK), and it's cheaper than the Nordica Hilton or I really need the Canopy's location. Also I will probably try out the Curio first.

A thousand bucks for that room??? Three hundred would be pushing it to me!

I think it's part of the design to keep in with local buildings many of which have dormer windows.

This is the Canopy seen from Hverfisgata. My room (512) was on the top floor, second window from left. I wouldn't have liked to be the person having to sleep on the lefthand side of the bed. :p

Such is the ceiling over Hyacinth Bucket's bed at her "bijou" country flat - her husband bangs his head getting up every time.

Just returned from a four night stay here with mixed feelings. Check in was OK but no chance of an upgrade as HH Diamond even though rooms available. Also had booked B&B so expected extra amenity (unless that has changed) but nothing.

Overall public spaces in the hotel are great and lots of places to sit and relax.

Our room was small and there is no way of controlling the room temperature apart from opening the window. We were in room X09 and there was construction going on opposite our room from 07:30 to 20:00 so opening the window was impossible. Lots of noise from the room above us - the wooden floors are great sound conductors!

Breakfast was OK but nothing changed so soon got very boring. Only benefit was making a sandwich to eat while driving around exploring the country. We hired a car for our stay as transfers from KEF are stupidly expensive, like everything else! One bright point was that the car park next door was free of charge instead of the usual ISK2500 per day - that almost payed for a couple of drinks.

We ordered a couple of cocktails in the bar. After 10 minutes my wife's cocktail was delivered but they had forgotten about mine. 15 minutes later mine finally arrived. The bar was empty apart from another couple who already had drinks so no excuses for such poor service.

The 6PM soiree is a bit of a miss. Local Icelandic produce such as Brie, Camembert and Chorizo with a miniscule taste of local beer.

Certainly not the worst Hilton I have ever stayed in but considering the room rate it didn't really deliver. I will definitely try another property for our next visit.

I just returned from the Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre, and I absolutely fell in love with the hotel. It was my first time at a Canopy, and I can see the attraction here. We booked a standard Queen room and got a standard King (as per preference in the profile). The check-in was quick and friendly, and we were advised of all the amenities. Since everyone gets everything here included into the room rate regardless of status, there are no Hilton Honors benefits to speak of apart from breakfast. The room was bigger than I imagined (the website said 16 sq.m. but it was definitely bigger), and there was enough space for the two of us. We had one cabin luggage size bag each, and there was enough room to store the bags and to hang our clothes. The bathroom (mostly the shower) was kind of big compared to the room size. The bed was very comfortable and had extra blankets on it. There were no bathrobes or slippers in the room (I guess none are placed in standard level rooms), but two sets were brought into our room upon request. No major noise issues as others complained about even though our room was facing the outdoor of the Canopy Central Bistro & Bar, where people gathered at night or went out for a smoke, and while it was loud at some point I was not kept awake at night. The walls are very thin though. I liked the idea of Canopy Central Bistro & Bar, which is sort of a lounge area with the bar, where people can sit and talk, enjoy a drink, or watch TV. Happy hour is from 4pm until 6pm, and it was certainly a busy time to be there.:) They also host the tasting of local bites and drinks (cheese and meat, or smoked fish, sangria, local beer, things like that), which was interesting to try. I surprisingly liked one of their local beers, even though I never liked or drank beer in my life.:D Breakfast was really good. Fresh, great variety, not your typical Hilton fare, and certainly very filling. We also had dinner at Geiri Smart every night we were there (that's how much we liked the restaurant that we decided to come back), which was fantastic. The restaurant Is very popular with the locals, and is definitely not a typical boring hotel restaurant with the same boring food. Iceland is amazing. I wish we had stayed for longer. But the Canopy is definitely is great place to stay - great location, friendly staff and great food.
We did stop by the Konsulat and checked the public areas out. We liked what we saw. It is definitely a more upscale hotel. While the Canopy is very casual and democratic, and yet contemporary and stylish, the Curio is very nice, but wanna-be pretentious and museum-like. The bar lounge was nicely done but seemed kind of vanilla with no character. The restaurant seemed the same way. I am not saying that I would not want to stay there, but the Canopy and the Curio are two very different hotels and two very different spirits. Plus, the Curio was surrounded by construction so we were glad that our first taste of Reykjavik was with the Canopy.
We also passed by the Hilton, and decided that we would not want to stay there due to the location. The exterior looked nice, but we did not peek inside.

That is because two pairs of orange Canopy slippers should have been in a drawer near the wardrobe area; and if you looked carefully enough, you would have found two grey Canopy bathrobes folded neatly.

I just stayed at this hotel property myself recently. My room looked almost exactly like the one in your photographs.

I recommend staying here if in Reykjavik.

I just came back from a stay where I did one night in the Canopy and one in the Konsulate. Although there were higher-end finishes in the Konsulate, I liked the Canopy more. Neither hotel had meaningful Diamond benefits. (Canopy gave me a bottle of water and a "book" about Reykjavik). Rooms were similar in size, though my room at Konsulate was awkwardly shaped and had no desk. Canopy has a better breakfast- more items (both hot and cold), coffee at the table, and more people working. The location of the Canopy was more central to nightlife and in the middle of the city, whereas Konsulate felt more tucked away. Konsulate is also surrounded by construction right now. There are no views at all from Konsulate rooms. Top floors of Canopy does. The one thing that Konsulate has that was great was the bath house in the basement - a large hot tub and sauna with chairs to relax. Both are nice hotels but neither will be on my list of memorable experiences.

Also, this thread made me have high expectations for the "local tasting." It's supposed to go for an hour. I went 25 minutes in, and there was nothing but Gull beer left to taste, and there were used tasting spoons strewn everywhere.

At the moment, for 20-23 August:

Konsulat: no awards available, Diamond Force $700

Canopy: no awards available, Diamond Force $639

Hilton Nordica: no awards available, no Diamond Force, nothing available

Reykjavik in high season. Til heilsu þinni. (To your health.)

JDiver,
We just checked in for a one night stay here at the Canopy.

As a diamond, I was upgraded to a junior suite. It is beautiful here. I booked a last minute (about a week ago) standard points reward for a King room. 70,000 points saved us $450 for the standard room here. Pretty good points redemption.

I am not sure I would spent $700 a night here though. There are many Airbnbs centrally located much less than that.

Lucky you! As a diamond, I got a regular room on a low floor that had all the noise of the street :(

What time did you arrive at the hotel and did it appear to be fully occupied?

Mid morning but my room had been preassigned.
I didnt do a survey but I imagine it was pretty full. Hence why I said the poster above was lucky and didn't launch into a broader tirade.

When I arrived around 11 AM the staff held our bags and asked us to come back in an hour or so. They advised they would look into an upgrade (without asking) while we went to lunch. The hotel didn't look super busy, keep in mind I had a one night Wednesday stay.
