Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Much will depend on how high the occupancy is for your stay. If it costs them virtually nothing, they may upgrade you. (Hopefully they will honor your Gold status, but you are not generally not eligible for stay or night credit, nor for points, because you booked on a third party site.)

Any recent stays here since the initial opening whirlwind? I was thinking of staying here for two nights due to meetings close by prior to moving back down to the Conrad for the remainder of my week long stay in December. The pictures on the web make the room look a bit tight (although at least the bathroom photos looks like its reasonable enough size to have room to put your toiletries out. I assume its the Standard HGI breakfast we all know so well.

Stayed there this summer with the family. The rooms are a bit tight but nothing we couldn't deal with. As mentioned before, breakfast for this Diamond was in the adjacent Empire Steakhouse restaurant and was a buffet spread. Not the typical standard HGI breakfast. Don't know if we could have ordered off the menu as we just took the buffet. Overall, we were pleased with the hotel and would go back due to excellent location. We have also stayed at the HGI Times Square @ 8th and 49th and have no complaints about that hotel either. Similar buffet breakfast setup in adjoining restaurant.

Just finished a 3 night stay here with 2 rooms (4 adults). Got 2 breakfast coupons a day in the steakhouse which was a pretty good breakfast. However since it isn't the standard HGI breakfast it can be expensive to get it for the others in your group.

This hotel defiantly has busy times and it can be hard to get anything done during those time frames. Promised calls when room is ready didn't happen, almost impossible to find someone to grab bags, LONG waits for elevators. But overall the staff is friendly, and the location is great. Just know its a couple blocks walk to the subway lines, and the street in front is always crowded and almost blocked off.

There are now some nice rates for X-mas 2016 & New Years eve.
From $159 with MPV deal. These are low rates in this busy week in NYC.

Eh, I just took a look and with MVP if you want NYE you're gonna have to book 12/25-1/1; shorter stay durations return a sellout with no availability for 1/1 checkout dates. MVP rate I am seeing for the weeklong stay is $167/night; still not bad if you wanna do a week in NYC.

Anything recent from here? What's the Gold breakfast situation? Thinking of booking this for a work trip that will have a ton of meetings in midtown and Park Ave area. There is a $290 hhonors rate for the week I'll be up there which is more competitive than a lot of the other options. Not sure what's going on in NYC the week of March 28 but airfares and hotels seem higher than I'd expect for this time of year.

Gold breakfast should be the same as the Diamond breakfast. Which is downstairs in the attached restaurant next door. Its buffet style and decent, not the best but still pretty good. Main issue here is the wait for the elevators, if you try to head upstairs at a busy time it can take 5-10 minutes to get an elevator.

Stayed here in January ($87 per night!). Can confirm the elevator situation is terrible and shared with housekeeping. Agree with breakfast as it did the job but nothing special. Otherwise, cannot fault. Good location and friendly staff.

Has anyone stayed here recently?

Do all Diamonds get free breakfast or you have to put it on your preferences?

Any complimentary room upgrades for diamonds?

Thanks

I received free breakfast as a gold in January so I doubt you will have an issue as diamond.

Just there over the weekend as a Diamond.

I did set my preference to breakfast before check in, and received 2 breakfast vouchers per room. As the buffet is $23 / person and we were a group of four adults this was a much better benefit than risking for a 750 point arrival gift. Buffet was excellent.

Did receive a complimentary upgrade on our room with a King bed to a King Terrace room. (Our first choice of desired upgrade). Able to select during OLCI. You must hunt for the room location though as I didn't see an easy way to locate upgraded room inventory. OLCI map shows orientation to 54th street.

Other room was a standard two Queen beds - no upgrade available. Didn't expect upgrade as I already knew hotel was sold out of Queen/Double rooms.

Also received 2 bottles of water per room. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Hey all,

I am thinking about booking a stay at this property next month. I see that the last update was about 1 year ago. Has anyone stayed at this property recently? and how was the breakfast?

Also, would you prefer this HGI over the one that's on 42nd (HGI Times Square Central)??

Thanks!

Stayed here 5 times now. Each stay was 7 nights. Last time in March 2017. I really like the hotel, it's basic, but the location and the staff are wonderful.

Gold & Diamonds still get free breakfast in the steakhouse on the ground floor, which has a basic but nice buffet. I always book a King Terrace Room, and select one at the back of the hotel, using the Hilton app for check-in and room selection.

These rooms are on the first hotel room floor. The little terrace with patio furniture is really nice to have and quite rare in New York. But more important, you can always take the stairs to and from the room, since the architect who designed the hotel, totally screwed up with the elevators as so many have mentioned before. Therefore I would never book another room type.
