Getting to the Hilton Garden Inn

From Aberdeen Railway Station, Guild Street
0.6 mi | 14 minutes by foot

By foot
Exit the station and turn left on to Guild Street, then a right on to Bridge Street. Follow Bridge Street up the hill to the junction of Union Street. Continue straight on to Union Terrace. You'll see the Union Terrace Gardens below on your right. As you approach the end of Union Terrace you'll encounter four easily identifiable landmarks: the statue of William Wallace and facing you on Rosemount Viaduct three granite buildings, Aberdeen Central Library, St Marks Church, and His Majesty's Theatre which combined represent three sides of Calvinist life: truth, virtue, and sin. Follow the pavement's gentle right hand turn on to Rosemount Viaduct. At the next roundabout, turn left onto Blackfriars Street. Continue to its end, then turn right on to St Andrew Street. The HGI is on the left hand side of the street after the first intersection (with Charlotte Street and Crooked Lane).

There are marginally quicker routes between the station and the hotel that cut through the tight grain of the city's back streets. However, the route above is recommended for first time visitors to Aberdeen and as it is step free, also those trailing luggage.

By bus
Bus 12 Green Line (operated by First Aberdeen) for Heathryfold. Buses operate between Guild Street and St Andrew Street every 12 minutes throughout the day Monday to Saturday, and less frequently after 7pm and on Sundays.

Bus 59 Hospital Direct (operated by Stagecoach Bluebird) for Northfield. Buses operate between Guild Street and St Andrew Street every 10 minutes throughout the day Monday to Saturday and less frequently after 6pm and on Sundays.

Stop for the HGI for both the 12 and 59 is on St Andrew Street. It immediately follows the stop at His Majesty's Theatre, which is an easily identifiable landmark located at the northern edge of Union Terrace Gardens. In fact both bus routes follow the walking route suggested above.

Adult bus fares are around £1.20 single. You just pay as you board. First Aberdeen will expect you to tender exact change but Stagecoach Bluebird does provide change.

From Union Square Bus Station
0.6 mi | 14 minutes by foot

If you are arriving by intercity coach, just follow the directions from the Railway Station above. The two stations are adjacent.

From Aberdeen Airport (ABZ)
6.6 mi | Drive time 20 minutes in good traffic

By taxi
Fares are metered by time and distance. Expect to pay between £15 and £20 depending on traffic.

By bus
Jet 727 (operated by Stagecoach Bluebird) to Union Square.
Journey time: approx 30 minutes
Fares: £2.70 adult single | £4.50 adult return

This limited stopping service runs between the Airport and Union Square at Guild Street. The stop nearest to the HGI is at Marischal College on Broad Street, a grand silver granite landmark, iconic of the city. Buses run every 20 minutes throughout the day (Monday to Saturday) and every 30 minutes evenings and Sundays.

Bus 27 (operated by First Aberdeen) to Union Square
Fares: £2.50 adult single | £1.10 child single
Journey time: approx 50 minutes
First Aberdeen operates its own service between the Airport and Guild Street, the number 27. It follows a different and more scenic route into the city centre but this service is infrequent (Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon peak only), takes a lengthy circuitous loop on approach to the airport and may not suit your schedule.

Arriving by car
The entrance to the hotel's car park is on Charlotte Street. The car park's capacity is limited to just 17 spaces but the hotel has an overflow arrangement in place nearby on Loch Street. Note, the Loch Street car park closes at 11pm so if you need access to your vehicle outside these hours do call the hotel in advance. They may be able to reserve a bay for you in the hotel car park. There is also short term pay and display street parking in the immediate vicinity.

When you arrive, just park on St Andrews Street outside the hotel entrance then check in. There is a convenient lay-by. Then park your vehicle after you have checked in.

Locality

The HGI is centrally located so there are restaurants, pubs, shopping, arts and culture in abundance and at very close proximity. Immediately around the corner on George Street there is a discounted drug store and a Co-operative Food store. A greater range of retail is available inside the nearby Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres (John Lewis, Boots (Dispensing chemist), and Sainsbury to name just a few)

I wonder what will actually happen to it.
I can’t see there being any demand for housing or student accommodation currently.

Perhaps it will just sit empty until the Coronavirus issue is resolved and the business environment recovers.

With the decimation of the Hilton portfolio in Aberdeen, you’d wonder whether at some point a new operator may appear spotting an opportunity ?

Remember the far superior Sandman Signature hotel is now open right next door.

My guess would be more student accommodation - once the timing is right.
