Waldorf Park City - upgraded one category, to a room with a kitchenette. As is Waldorf fashion, no breakfast amenities.
Hotel was absolutely deserted the first few days we were there last week, and the charged rate was only $152. Price dropped three times in the two months since I originally booked it.

Just completed my stay and ended up getting an upgrade to presidential suite, even better than what I requested. Incredible view!

Comp Upgrades for Golds - What are your experiences?
I have received two upgrades as gold. Once at a Homewood suites to a nicer room and most recently up to a junior suite at the Hampton Inn and Suites downtown in New Orleans. The New Orleans hotel impressed me with their service. And being bumped up to a suite from a regular room. A far cry from my stays at another Hilton on a Priceline stay.

While on the road needed a break so booked a regular room at the Double Tree in Columbia, MD. Called 10 minutes later and the nice lady at the front desk said they had an upgrade ready. Arrived 30 minutes later to King Suite with free breakfast certs.
The room is quite spacious and the staff has been wonderful.

I think it depends on where you stay and when. I'm diamond, my wife is gold. She has gotten a number of upgrades in hotels that I haven't been upgraded in and vice versa depending on time of year, availability, etc. For me, I think it's interesting to compare our battle field experiences of upgrades within the house and argue over who got the better upgrades or who, presumably, got shafted.
Some 'upgrades' I'm not really sure are upgrades. She had booked an executive floor room recently at the Harrisburg, PA Hilton. Checked in and found she was 'upgraded' to a two room suite on the 4th floor where the bedroom was directly behind the elevator shaft. While she reported that the bedroom was quiet, the sitting room was quite loud with all the foot-traffic in the hallway by the elevators. This would seem to be in direct opposition to our profile's which request high floors away from elevators. Upgrade or not, you be the judge.

I always do it and I haven't had a stay yet, where they did not upgrade me. It's a little bit work but it pays of.

So far this year:
Hilton Arlington (VA)--upgraded to exec floor, got voucher for full breakfast even though I chose the points.
HGI NY/Chelsea (28th St)--no upgrade of note
Hilton Tokyo--Given choice between smoking room on exec floor or nonsmoking on regular floor.
Conrad Tokyo--Upgraded to Bay View room
Hilton Kuala Lumpur--Upgraded to exec floor
Palmer House (Chicago)--no upgrade, was in a hurry at check-in so I didn't ask. Got lounge access as I understand is standard for golds here.
