Is there still some things that are not working right with the search for honors rooms?

I am trying to find a hotel for May in San Francisco and there is nothing available.

Also I search out an entire year and nothing shows up.

System still not all updated or did something change on how we should search?

If I was going to do an HH vs. SPG comparison, I'd probably compare the 5-night awards or maybe the C&P awards on 1-night stays.

Also, once you get into Starwood Category 6 and 7, the value-per-point equation can go either direction (good or bad) in a hurry. If you've found a great Cat 6 with $350 rooms, consider paying for the room if you think it's worth it. Other Cat 6-7 hotels will have only $1,000 rooms, making the points look more attractive. Eventually you get into hotels you *probably* wouldn't actually book yourself with cash, so it's a bit like assessing the value you're getting out of a F/J award flight.

Whenever I do cross-program comparisons, I tend to use something like Starwood Cat 4 or 5 vs. HH Cat 6 or 7 vs. Marriott Cat 5 or 6. Although now HH has made this a bit more difficult...

You need to have enough points in your account in order to see the availability.

The grass is not much greener at SPG after HH devaluation but SPG Plat benefits are superior to HH Diamond.

Most places I'm checking have no availability. Is this just an anomaly of the transition, or did they limit the inventory that is available for award bookings also?

I found the same thing. Points for rooms show up when I am not logged in. When I log in, I get a message that "The requested rate is not available. View other available rooms and rates below."

Of course, I just blew half a million points before the big devaluation, and have almost nothing left. Still, the system used to show the points required, even if I needed to buy them.

Also, I am looking at resorts, and when not logged in, I do not see the 5th night for free in terms of the points required.

Thank you! It has been driving me crazy! I blew all but 1000 points so that's why I can't see anything.

This must be a new "feature" as prior to all the "changes to make it better for our members" :td:, if I was logged in, I could always see the points option to book a room even if I did not have enough points in my account

Been around at least since last year, it is frustrating because I was looking for reward options for a trip in December but was unable to see alternatives to the stay I had already booked using points.

However at some threshold it allows you to look short and buy the remaining points, I booked NYE at the Doubletree TS with only 41K points in my account and bought the 9K points I needed.

There are indeed some good points + $ rates. I changed Conrad Macao and Hilton NRT where both the points and cash were lower.

Since the Hilton NRT rates are fairly "reasonable" most days, unless you are extremely points-rich, wouldn't it be a better deal to pay the regular room rate rather than using points or c+p?

I get points, I use 'em. They do me no good sitting in my account. And, you know, there might be a...devaluation.;)

Do you not get the 5th night free on cash and points booking?

Don't think so. You are already getting a discount.

Huh? I thought you got the 5th night free on a cash booking, and on a points booking. Why not on a cash&points booking?

there's NO 5th night free on cash bookings.

There's a current resort promo for 5th night free on cash booking but that's solely on resorts & is a limited time offer.

The 5th night free on awards is what replaced the GLONs.

thebill0322 Mar 31, 2013 11:05 am

Do you get charged the 14% room rate if a hotel has one for reward bookings as well?

Just trying to gauge what direction I go cash + points or straight reward booking.
