Was this really an upgrade?
If so, I'll add it to the "List your Free car upgrades here" thread...
Booked a midsize "Mazda 6 or equivalent" (class C) at IAH, Gold Canopy. Car turned out to be a Scion xA, which was labeled class Z on the keyring. Mazda 6/equivalent to Scion xA seems like a downgrade to me, but Hertz Customer Relations wrote
So, was this really an upgrade? (I didn't ask an agent at the time because I didn't realize what I had reserved until I reconciled my paperwork when I got home.)
I'm not super upset or anything since the price differential would only have been a few dollars, and the car was in one of the closest stalls, which never happens
More just curious.
Thanks...

Our records confirm that your reservation was booked for a C class or mid size vehicle. The vehicle rented is considered a Z class or 2WD/4WD Crossover and is an upgrade from the reserved vehicle class. Hertz' classification of vehicles is based on a number of factors including the manufacturer's specifications, vehicle size, equipment, capacity and cost.

Personally, I think Hertz is stretching the term "crossover" by calling the xA a crossover because it's basically just a 4 door hatch back. Whatever the case, I'm sure Hertz would have swapped you out for another car if you told them you didn't want the xA.
My opinion - no, it was not an upgrade. In the eyes of Hertz, it was an upgrade.

When you said xA I'm guessing you actually mean it was a Scion xD, as the xA hasn't been built since 2006. And yes, you were most definately downgraded. The Scion xA is classified as a subcompact and runs on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris. Hertz can call it whatever they want but it's not a midsize car or larger. They probably figure since it's a "unique" car people won't complain. It's the same way that people booking fullsizes get "upgraded" to PT Cruisers since it's a "specialty" car.

Sadly, I did mean an xA. It was a 2006 with 31500 miles on it, which is probably a post for the high mileage thread...

Sadly The miles are low in comparison to some cars I have gotten lately.
