Was this really an upgrade?

If so, I'll add it to the "List your Free car upgrades here" thread...

Booked a midsize "Mazda 6 or equivalent" (class C) at IAH, Gold Canopy. Car turned out to be a Scion xA, which was labeled class Z on the keyring. Mazda 6/equivalent to Scion xA seems like a downgrade to me, but Hertz Customer Relations wrote

Our records confirm that your reservation was booked for a C class or mid size vehicle. The vehicle rented is considered a Z class or 2WD/4WD Crossover and is an upgrade from the reserved vehicle class. Hertz' classification of vehicles is based on a number of factors including the manufacturer's specifications, vehicle size, equipment, capacity and cost.
So, was this really an upgrade? (I didn't ask an agent at the time because I didn't realize what I had reserved until I reconciled my paperwork when I got home.)

I'm not super upset or anything since the price differential would only have been a few dollars, and the car was in one of the closest stalls, which never happens More just curious.

Thanks...
