Alamo is fine in my experience.
However, given the usurious taxes/fees at PHX, you might want to look at this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/west/...al-thread.html for some ideas about nearby offsite Hertz and other agencies. Even with a taxi ride to the agency, you might safe some significant change. And often you can pick up at the HLE and return to the airport with no difference in total charge (and avoid most of the breathtaking taxes/fees for renting at the airport)

I've been trying to book a car at YGR airport and none of the codes seem to work at this remote location. The only available company is Hertz.

Any help would be great - from the UK so booking through the UK site but from what I can see PCs work etc. So used the AA Plat discount and the Corolla is coming in at approx. $560. Not rented many cars before so no idea if that is a good rate at all!

That's under $100 all-in... if you can make that work, it will be significantly cheaper than any car rental, especially if you factor in gas prices in the NY metro area.
