I'm amazed at Focus going back to C.
Admittedly, that's where it belongs in my opinion, but then so do most of the rest of the 'I' group.
Four cylinder 'F's (Malibu/Fusion/Camry etc) should then be 'I's, turbos and 6 cylinders and anything sporty could be 'S' and bigger cars like the Impala/Taurus/Charger could be 'F'.
Then we'd have Avalon/Genesis/Azera/300 in 'P' and 'L' could be Cadillacs, Lincolns, and Infinitis (plus 328is and C250s).
Of course all of that is a pipe dream but none of those classifications seems more generous than a Focus in 'C' even if it's only an SE.

I booked a standard with 2 class upgrade coupon. Was assigned a captiva prior to arrival, which I refused because didn't want an SUV and was looking for a nicer car. Manager gave me a real hard time and offered a subaru legacy or malibu.
Am I wrong in thinking I should have been given a premium?
and to contribute - gold choice section at IAD over this past weekend had only 4-5 cars: a corolla, a couple malibus....all compact to mid-size.

I think they're going to be new model-reservable cars, as has happened with past mystery cateogries (XXAR, etc.). Ultimately I expect them all to be moved to some sort of named collection (Dream Cars has been mentioned several times).
Upgrade PCs are subject to availability and IME should not be relied upon. A YF Captiva does fit the bill (D > F > YF); upgrades to SUV classes from standard car classes are also usually considered double upgrades (e.g., midsize to midsize SUV... I think SCAR would also double-UG to IFAR, since SFAR would be a double-UG from FCAR).
What did you end up taking?

ended up getting a maxima after a bit of negotiation. happy with the end result, just not the process to get there. The whole time I thought I was arguing not for something I wasn't entitled to but just what I thought I had booked under (standard->full size->premium). so maxima wouldn't have been possible then I guess based on your schema had I not pushed it? Feel bad then as I honestly didn't know and probably came off entitled

Don't feel bad. The scheme I suggested is how they think. I wouldn't have been thrilled with a YF anything either if I were in your shoes. They tend to skimp out on "real" upgrades when they are caused by PCs and take the subclass route, although they really don't know any better. It's all about what they learned in training, regardless of whether we like it or not Good job pushing them though; it's all too rare when people report successfully getting upgraded *two* full classes from a PC.

1) manager claimed PC was only for 1 upgrade (disproved by having my confirmation page)
2) then claimed no premium cars available (disproved by saying outside agent had just shown me one that was)
3) claimed that the maxima was for someone who was not here yet and had paid for a premium car rather than upgraded - told him that unless he specifically booked the maxima, it is based on what is available at time of arrival. also, I booked with hertz on the assumption I would be given 2 full upgrades to premium when I could have gone for same cost to avis (which was true)
took awhile but he grudgingly and sheepishly relented after outside agent confirmed the maxima was available.

I was in ANC last week. Plenty of Ford SUVs: Explorers and Expeditions. Alternative choice was Traverse or Enclave, but not many of those.
Other categories were a real mix, lots of minivans (Caravans / Sienna) and sedans were mainly Ford and Toyota.
Explorers were all XLT (7 seats) and mine had Comfort package (power seats and leather) and Connect package (Sync). Brand new vehicle.

Are there a lot of Honda Accord's available at Hertz? Never see any when I stop at Hertz.

Of course, not a ding, scratch & washed clean - ready for us. Last renter put in about 700 miles OW as his RA was left inside the console so we will, eventually, get it home to LAX next weekend. Sunny & 85 degree here, time to open the sunroof.

Still renting Mitsubishi Spyder?
I was looking at convertibles at LAX and I also noticed that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder is listed. Is Hertz really still renting these? Mitsubishi hasn't made this car for years, and even back then it was a POS! Anyone know what you're really likely to get if they are indeed not still renting these?
