A slight dissent on Migrant. If you are a carnivore, it is probably fine, but otherwise, the menu can seem quite small. The night I was there, there were only two fish dishes that were free of (or could be made free of) meat or shellfish elements, and they ran out of one of their two cooked vegetable dishes by 7 pm! (Carrots were gone - brussels sprouts available) Most noodle dishes also depended on a meat element.

But the meat dishes and starches were ample (and good, according to the carnivores in our group). Salads meh. Probably a fairly accurate reflection of the Filipino influence. For the non-carnivores, we enjoyed Sansei, Merriman's and Pacific'O much more.

Aloha!
We just arrived in kapalua / Lahaina area - fourth time here since 2011, always at same beloved place; we are here for a week. Can I get some of your favorite restaurant suggestions? We have existing reservations/plans for Duke's, Pineapple Grill, merrimans, Maui tacos, Lahaina Fish, and the Duke's sibling restaurant in Whaler's Village before the cute hula show. And we will get some luncheons at Maui Fish and Leoda's.
We probably won't get Star Noodle because we eat a ton of Asian food at home in San Francisco; we prefer Hawaiian / Maui food that is just harder to find outside Hawaii. I'm already blown away with the nut mix on HA that had dried fruit in the formula.
We don't have the patience for the line for The Gazebo but it is a gorgeous place for breakfast; I respect their huge line.
Mahalo in advance! :-)

In Kapalua Merriman's is highly recommended. In Kaanapali Beach area, Hula Grill, Leilani's - both dining rooms. If you go to Lahaina Front street, Pacific O is wonderful, the sunset view is unparalleled, the farm to table produce from their own farm, good ambiance, great service-we were there a week ago-check it out.

In Kapalua, Sansei (sushi/seafood) is very good but sometimes hard to get a reservation (must call) and NO atmosphere.

In Ka'anapali, Japengo at the Hyatt Regency is good. This is also sushi and Asian/seafood. You can book reservations on OpenTable.

And of course, there is always Mama's Fish House in Paia where the food is great and the prices reflect it!

How is Lahaina fish (also on Front)? I just chose from opentable.

We enjoyed merrimans on Thursday and will go to Leilani's tonight. I'm stuffed from a late luncheon at Ulumi (Hyatt poolside restaurant) so should just get salad for dinner.
Yesterday was a huge Duke's poolside luncheon, so supper was Ono Gelato on Front.

Mahalo!!!

We've only been to Lahaina Fish once, but really enjoyed it. Kimo's is also great on Front Street.

Has anyone been to Taverna in Kapalua yet? The menu looks good online, but a lot of that stuff requires great execution...

Went to Migrant last week and I have to say that it was quite good. We went heavy on appetizers and light on entrees and basically everything was really tasty.

And another visit to Tamura's for poke for the plane was perfect.

We couldn't get Taverna open table to work but their menu looked great. I'll look forward to some FT reviews :-)

I think it may be already out of business or something? I can find no reviews anywhere online, the Open Table says it's unavailable, and no one answers the phone...

Sugar Cane - Happy Hour

Had a few nice rum concoctions on Front St. in Lahaina. They have quite a selection of rums from around the world. Really nice views from the balcony over looking the Ocean. Friendly service. Good pupus (appetizers) , reasonably priced. Can get toasty near the windows late in the afternoon though. So, those cool refreshing Hawaiian drinks sure do help!

Fleetwood's while not inexpensive was a leisurely dining experience with a view from the roof-top lounge to watch the sunset after an amazing day. Appetizer was the "Baked Mac & Cheese" while the main course was the "Orechiette pasta & Smoked Meatballs" which with tip and two beer came to around USD$68 and I left stuffed but satisfied. Alas, Mick wasn't around for my visit but would return if I magically found myself in Maui again soon.

Is it a 'thing' that all the restaurants have very feeble lunch offerings?

I quite liked the idea of Lahaina Fish, pulled up the lunch menu only to find that there was no er, fish on it...

Haven't really got down into looking at restaurants yet, but not that bothered about sushi (unless its spectacularly good) or asian since I'll be pigging out on it in vegas.

Really wanting good fish, hawaiian food, fun places, good views, the usual I guess. Quite happy eating anything from a food truck upwards

I'd expect that someone who posts his location as London to recognize that fish and chips contains FISH ---- as do several other items on the referenced menu.

Point taken, there is poke and shrimp burgers and fish tacos. Still, the OP does have a point that a restaurant advertising itself as a Fish restaurant might want to put a fresh fish filet somewhere in there. Perhaps they do, as unadvertised "fish of the day?"
