Just looking at this thread for the first time. We usually spend a couple of weeks around the 4th of July. We stay in the Spreckelsville area because we like to windsurf, so we are more familiar with the restauarants there.

Expensive & Excellent: We like the Haillemaile general store. Last year, we tried out David Paul's grill in Lahaina....it was most excellent. Music by Scotty Rotten added to our dining pleasure.

Less expensive and good: Flatbread Pizza, Jaques (although in 2009 Jaques seemed not to be as good as previous years), and Paia Fish Market (addicted to mahi-mahi burgers).

That's the place on the corner with the picnic tables and no table service? I love that place. Some of the best fish tacos I've had for sure.

Where to eat in Maui that won't break the bank?

We are travelling to Maui in March to celebrate parents 50th anniversary>Mine is the only family with kids (triplets 11 and a 13 yr old) We have booked a condo in Kihei, while the rest stay in Wailea. What are some restaurants to eat at that are reasonable? All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks\cw

Panda Express for Chinese food. Fast service, good quality and inexpensive.

Carl's Jr. for yummy burgers. Watch for coupons in the Maui News.

Kihei is probably the best place in West Maui for reasonable meals. LOT's of very reasonable places in the Kihei area.

I'm sure some folks will offer a list of places you might want to visit. In addition, before leaving the OGG airport, make sure you grab one each of the various tourist books in the kiosks near baggage. Lots of ideas, coupons, menus and the like for restaurants all over the island.

Have a great time in Maui!

One of our cheapest meals was at Fred's Mexican restaurant, especially on Taco Tuesday. Wokstar was also recommended to us as a decent cheap place. Both are on the main road along the beach near Kam I and Kam II.

Something else to consider is that many/most Kihei condo complexes have BBQ(s) for everyone to use. This is a popular activity, as the sun sinks into the ocean.

Many of the beach parks have them too.

Some current cheap eats in Maui (Mostly Lahina 2/2010).

Cheeseburgers in Paradise has a breakfast special: 2 eggs, toast, hashbrowns and coffee for $5.99. Lovely tables to watch the whales and eat.

Mooses (2 locations) still offers specials every day and night. The night we were there 2 burgers and fries for $10.95 and several to choose from draft beers for $3.

Subway: most 12 inch $6

Costco: hard to beat huge chicken for $4.99 (2 dinners and 1 lunch each for we 2 seniors), with some chips added in.

Outback Steakhouse: (2 locations) nicer dinner for $12-25 each. Free sundae on birthday/anniversary. Black Opal Shiraz about $25, is a nice add on. Note Lahaina location is the new prototype for future designs at Outback (it is also open for lunch). The one in Kihea is regular type. both the same menu. Say hello to Josh from the Gibson's if you go to the Kihea unit. Check your receipt, they are offering a free blooming onion for your next visit if you do an internet survey.

Pineapple Grill Kapalua

We are a group or about 20 on a conference arriving at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua around 7:30 p.m. and we were looking at all going for dinner at the Pineapple Grill after
checkin. Anyone know if this is a walkable distance and if
its OK in the dark for navigation? Or should we go for one of the hotel restaurants? Been to Maui many times
but I'm a "southerner"- usually stay in Kihei!

It is excellent but really not walkable from the RC. Just take the resort shuttle. (probably have to take several with a large group)

Haven't been to the Pineapple, but I am a big Peter Merriman fan. There's one on site on Bay Club drive in Kapalua.
