I think the 5000 number is good. Not fair to compare to Georgia who sold out their allotment when it's just a drive down the road for them vs. $2000 airfare for us. I think(and hope) that once sales open up to the public thursday that UH's allotment will sell out as well. Though people may have to get ohana style with sharing the hotel rooms.
Yeah, we hope so. It's our first time to NOLA, even though we're very familiar with the South (just not the deep South). So it should be fun. But, what makes this trip even more exciting is that not only are we visiting a new and exotic destination, we'll be doing it with at least 10,000 other locals who may make the travel (and all the Warrior fans across the US).
Call us stereotypical locals, but we've never spent a NYE off the rock--not even in Vegas!

So it turns out that Boyd Gaming does own several casino/hotels in Louisiana, and is considering chartering flights to New Orleans from Las Vegas for the Sugar Bowl. Here's a good article from today's Star-Bulletin reporting on the current state of tickets, charters, travel agency packages, etc., for the big game: http://starbulletin.com/2007/12/04/news/story01.html

Rumor has it that when public tickets go on sale this Thursday, Georgia fans will buy out the rest of the allotment so that Hawaii fans won't have a shot at filling the crowd.

Unofficial word is that the 17,500 ticket allotment is sold out. UH is taking waiting list names for season ticket holders at a cap of 6 tickets per person.
Travel Ways is doing a charter flight that leaves for MSY on an AQ flight on Christmas day and return at 3 a.m. on the 3rd of January. No idea what the pricing is. Christmas day is incidentially the same day the team leaves for MSY.
I really can't believe that UH sold out of its allotment. Wow!

12/25-1/3? I'd pass on getting there 5 full days early. Also, I don't recommend Travel Ways.
I'm hearing that HA is doing a charter too. No idea how to book it, though.

Yikes! We calculated it out and with our combination of *points and cash, we'll be spending $2400 for two people including airfare, nine nights of hotels (we'll be stopped by SOCal on the way home), a car rental from LAX, airport transfers in MSY, and game tickets. That's $1200/person. Wowie; that's looking like a steal!

Flight leaving right after the game? did you typo? The game is on the 1st, flight leaving 3am on the 3rd? I guess when comparing it to getting there 5 days early?
