HA to Guam

Has HA considered starting up a GUM route again? I occasionally fly CO to GUM. Their prices have gotten out of this world and flights are always full to the max. I used to fly HA to Guam when they had the DC-8 Combi a decade or so ago. I would think with the DOD troop build up in Guam, the market would be ripe for another carrier.

Welcome to Flyertalk, cdavishi! I think what HA has right now is a very extensive route network and not enough airplanes to keep up (as of right now). So while we might not see HA open up to GUM in the near and immediate future, it is always a possibility as HA has been very open to new (or in this case, resurrection of old) routes.

Yea, and I bet the DOD will pay premium fares....NOT....its not a route that will make much money, so the planes can do better for the airline elsewhere.

Doesn't DOD/GOV'T buy alot of unrestricted tix? It sure seems to me that HA sells alot of seats for $250-$450 for current transpac routes... so while I don't disagree that this probably isn't a profitable route for them, I don't understand why you're saying DOD won't pay premium fares. I thought they needed the flexible fare rules...

Could be worse than CO -- SPIA could come back!

I had the dubious distinction of being the last government contract passenger on SPIA from HNL to GUM back in 1984. Their contract ended 9/30 and CO took over from 10/1, but I somehow managed to be booked on that decrepit 707 on 10/1. Thank goodness for their $60 upgrade back then!

Interesting (to me, anyway) trivia: I'd been routed OMA-DFW-HNL-GUM. The DFW-HNL and HNL-GUM were both planned for exactly the same amount of time, 7 hr 48 min.
