Munich to Mauthausen - Is it possible?

Has anyone done a roundtrip from Munich to Mauthausen? If so, how did you get there? I would be open to renting a car, but I would prefer the train.

Thank You

Driving to Mauthausen from MUC would take about 1 1/2 hours. I realize you prefer the train, but do you prefer it enough to spend an extra 2 hours each way to get there?

Yes, it is an easy drive by car from Munich via Passau and Linz to Mauthausen. I dont know how you can get up to the KZ, when arriving by train, because the KZ is on a small hill. The best way to avoid the much traffic jams at Linz is to drive further to St. Valentin on the highway A1 and then to Mauthausen.

Oh - I didn't know you meant the KZ in Mauthausen, Austria. That will indeed take longer than 1.5 hours.

There is also a Mauthausen, Germany, in between Rosenheim and Salzburg which I thought you were referring to. That Mauthausen is only 1.5 hours away from Munich.
