Munich to Mauthausen - Is it possible?

Has anyone done a roundtrip from Munich to Mauthausen? If so, how did you get there? I would be open to renting a car, but I would prefer the train.

Thank You

Driving to Mauthausen from MUC would take about 1 1/2 hours. I realize you prefer the train, but do you prefer it enough to spend an extra 2 hours each way to get there?

There is a concentration camp near Munich.

From Wikipadia:

Dachau was a Nazi German concentration camp located on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory near the medieval town of Dachau......

Yes, it is an easy drive by car from Munich via Passau and Linz to Mauthausen. I don´t know how you can get up to the KZ, when arriving by train, because the KZ is on a small hill. The best way to avoid the much traffic jams at Linz is to drive further to St. Valentin on the highway A1 and then to Mauthausen.

Oh - I didn't know you meant the KZ in Mauthausen, Austria. That will indeed take longer than 1.5 hours.

There is also a Mauthausen, Germany, in between Rosenheim and Salzburg which I thought you were referring to. That Mauthausen is only 1.5 hours away from Munich.
