FRA Layover Time

Is 1hr 30 min enough time to transfer in FRA for a flight to the US? Route is FCO-FRA-IAD and I would have only a carry on. Not sure which terminal FCO-FRA would arrive into but if its helpful to know, the FRA-IAD is UA operated. TIA

LH is operating FCO-FRA, right? Then you’d stay within T1.

Single ticket?

Do you have a passport eligible for the automatic immigration gates? That would likely speed up the exit passport control.

For me 90 mins would probably be okay if I didn’t have better option (earlier flight from FCO), and also depending on how much of a disaster it would be to miss the connecting UA flight.

Yes, it is all on one ticket (UA award redemption). Yes, LH is operating FCO-FRA. The FRA-IAD is UA operated. Does that still keep me in T1 or would I have to transfer terminals?

Not sure what makes a US passport eligible for automatic gates in FRA, but I do have one with a chip in it and I've used automatic gates in the US.

LH uses only T1, and UA as well.

There is always a chance that you win the FRA bus lottery and the FCO arrives at a bus gate, which may add a bit of time to the deplaning process.

EasyPass-RTP Enrollment

There is a system called EasyPass-RTP that Americans can enroll into if they enter Germany frequently.

Others may have more experience but I think the exit immigration is usually faster than arrival passport control (even without automatic gates).

May as well tack on to this.
I am flying CLT-FRA-BER on a single ticket, however it is AA into FRA and LH out. So I assume I will have to do the T2 to T1 and passport control. Right now my connection time is 1:50, so I assume that is enough. But as noted in the LH thread non *Alliance to *Alliance should allow for more time. Looks like AA arrivals are D gates in Terminal 2 and departures to Berlin are A gates in terminal 1.
The interactive map isn't really helpful. It doesn't calculate from Border control to A gates. Do I need to clear security in FRA or will there be signs for connections? The thread in the LH forum doesn't really address arrivals in D*.

I mean, if you're on one ticket, AA is responsible for getting you to Berlin if you miss the correspondance.

Generally, I would not do a T2 to T1 (or vice versa) in under 3h, but in your case because it's on one ticket and your bags should be ticketed to BER, you *might* be okay. AA is responsible anyway, like I said.

You might have to go through contrles for security, which is a mild disaster at FRA putting it nicely. And you would have to take the Skytrain because T1 and T2 are not physically connected. Contrle passeports is often slow.

T2 and T1 are in fact physically connected between C gates and D gates, and you can walk that, but that's a long shlep. Instead, after arrival, follow signs to Terminal A (not "Baggage Claim" or "Exit", that takes you landside), take the train to "A/Z Gates" stop (you'll be in the airside carriage), through transfer security control next to the train stop, two levels down to A, through immigration and that's it, you're at deaprture gates A. Should be OK if your inbound isn't excessively delayed. I find transfer immigration and transfer security at FRA are not as bad as immigration and security are for those arriving/departing FRA.

Perfect. Thanks, this is just what I was looking for.
How long are immigration and security lines? Hopefully not too bad.
Since I am interlining, I assume I will have to get a LH boarding pass somewhere along the way.

Shouldn't AA be able to print your LH boarding card ? It's on one ticket. Your bags would tagged to BER anyway.

I am going by past experience on us-CDG-Europe flights where the second flight was Air France and even though it was a Delta ticket I had to get the boarding pass inCDG.
