Round Trip to DUS instead of One Way?
Hey,
I am new to flyertalk, so I don't have a real overview over the Forum, yet.
I couldn't find this question or a newbie-section for Germany, so I just post this question here.
I am planning to return to Germany this June. A friend recommended me to buy a round trip starting in Germany, instead of a one way ticket, because he said it is cheaper.
Another friend of mine now stated, that if I miss my flight in Germany (which I would plan on doing, since I am already in the US), they will cancel my whole itinerary.
Is this true / are they allowed to to that?
Thank you very much for your help!
ps: if this post is in the wrong place please move it to where it belongs

Your friend is wrong. A RT starting in Europe tends to be cheaper than its RT counterpart starting in the US. But if you are starting your journey in the U.S., what are you suppose to use to get from the U.S. to Europe? The return portion of the Europe-U.S. ticket? Which btw won't be valid if you skip the outbound portion. Moreover, what would you use to get back to the U.S.?
The Europe-U.S. method only is beneficial if one is making frequent visits to Europe. And can find a OW award ticket to Europe at the start of the process (or a reasonably priced OW, which do exist in some markets).

But you'd still have to buy two RT tickets. Which would equal the cost of the one U.S. ticket. I don't see any logic in this. Most importantly because if you don't fly the outbound portion of a ticket, the return portion is automatically cancelled. Singapore Airlines tends to offer a low OW fare between JFK and FRA. Right now it can be purchased for less than $500 if you leave before the summer starts. Not sure how much it is after that. Turkish ailrines will sometimes have cheap OW tickets to Europe. But you have to connect in Istanbul. Air Berlin also has OW fares to/from Germany that are much less than the other carriers.

But since I trust your judgement that it is not possible I won't try it anyway..
Thank you for your help!
