http://articles.mcall.com/2013-01-09...-fuel-jet-fuel

"Did a $1 million bonus lose LVIA an airline?

Airport's new contract with World Fuel is prompting Frontier Airlines to pull out."

Frontier planes are 90 percent full and turning a profit at LVIA, but Robert N. Ashcroft, Frontier vice president of finance, said he sees no future in further investment at the airport."

The airport disputes some of what he says, but something got up Mr. Ashcroft's nose and he's a smart cookie.

Since TTN-DEN can't be done, and PHL-DEN was too competitive, and no slots for EWR-DEN, Frontier could have flown ABE-DEN.
As in post #80, the CEO recently told the staff that it is Frontier's intention to fly TTN-DEN.

They don't have an aircraft with the right engine performance to do this yet, but it is something they are "actively" working on.

They are upgrading the engines on N902FR to higher thrust, but I don't know if this will solve the TTN-DEN issue.

Would Frontier be able to fly TTN-DFW and TTN-IAH at this point or after the TTN-DEN aircraft issue is resolved? It's about 200 miles more than TTN-MSY and 200 miles less than TTN-DEN.

I flew to DFW on US and later on AA last year and both offer an uninspiring service. Frontier would have the DirecTV that I could watch.

I can't imagine going 3 hours on Spirit's new PHL-DFW flight unless the fare, big front seat cost and one bag came out to a reasonable number.

Theoretically, yes. If they do find an aircraft with the engine performance to make TTN -DEN, then it could make anything within that range, TTN-DFW or even, say, TTN-CUN.

Frontier already has some A319's with higher thrust engines but obviously not enough thrust. Given the engine advances since then, can the higher thrust being installed on N902FR do the trick? Would the new sharklets help that?

The ideal solution would be to lengthen the runway by 500 feet, but TTN has previously publicly committed to not lengthening the runway, to calm the NIMBYs. They are adding 500 feet of EMAS to the runway, but that's a safety precaution and I don't think (?) it adds to the usable runway length.

I don't know what the solution is, but they believe there is one.

I believe they are doing upgrades to the terminal in September when F9 suspends service for the EMAS safety install on the runway, but I don't know what that will include.
From Mercer County's website: http://nj.gov/counties/mercer/news/r...ed/130402.html

In concert with the runway safety improvements, Mercer County will utilize the construction period to make further improvements to the parking areas and terminal facilities, including easier access to vehicle parking, enhanced concession options, larger hold rooms with better amenities, and restroom upgrades.

These are things that airline customers have been asking for, Hughes said. Were confident that well be able to offer the public an even better facility and more enjoyable traveling experience when Frontier resumes its service.

Thought I just heard on the news that the towers won't close until June because of some lawsuits.

Is there any way to get to TTN on NJ transit or any other mode of public transportation from Manhattan?

Yes there is but it may be expensive. You can take NJ Transit to Trenton (Currently listed as $15.50 one way) then take a cab to the airport, however Mercer Counties website says it costs $35 for a cab ride from the Trenton Transit Center. Trenton Mercer Airport's website does list the cab companies and their numbers so you may want to call them to see if this is accurate.

TTN: Possible additional expansion

Just got this

Temporary Schedule Suspension at Trenton-Mercer Airport

Dear Dustin,

Due to construction of a federally-mandated runway enhancement project scheduled at Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing, NJ from Sept. 9 to Nov. 7, 2013 — Frontier Airlines will temporarily stop service from Princeton/Trenton during that time.

This announcement doesn't affect customers who have already purchased travel or who would like to purchase travel to or from Trenton-Mercer Airport prior to Sept. 8, 2013. Booking is also open for flights on or after Nov. 8 through our current schedule extension up to Nov. 13 on FlyFrontier.com.

As of April, Frontier operates service to 10 cities from Trenton, including new nonstop flights to/from Atlanta, Chicago-Midway, Columbus, Detroit and Raleigh/Durham. Book now with low fares starting at $49* one way.

We thank you for your patience regarding this matter, and we look forward to serving the Trenton area before and after this temporary service disruption.

P.S. they can send the freed up livery and routes over to MDT - we have plenty of demand, gates, jetbridges, and a functioning runway.

YES. Totally agree. I'd love to see additions to MDT service.

At that rate, I might as well stick to LGA flights. Seems like the cost of transport would cancel out the attraction of a cheap ticket to a warmer state.

I noticed that the rental cars from Budget/Avis at TTN can be kind of pricey, like lowest $45/day but sometimes lowest being at $60/day. From my experience, Budget/Avis staff can be very annoying on upselling insurance and car upgrades too, and their emergency road assistance was lousy when I tried to use it once. I ended up having to use my AAA service.

As an alternative, off airport site Enterprise locations typically have $30/day lowest price and the local Enterprise branch 1571 N. OLDEN AVE. will pick one up at Trenton-Mercer on Mon-Fri 8:30-5:30pm. If the travel is around Mon-Fri, this can work out for some. Some of the TTN flights like the MDW-TTN flight arrive at 2pm or so. If one needs to be picked up, but the say your relative is still at work, it's easier not to inconvenience him/her and just rent a car sometimes. The taxi to Trenton Transit Center is somewhat expensive and taking a RiverLine or NEC and two or three other trains afterwards is inconvenient as well.

Yeah, TTN isn't really designed for the NYC crowd. Its more for Southern Central/Northern Southern NJ and the Northern Philadelphia suburbs. Its definitely for people who will drive to the airport.

Here's a rough estimate of the catchment area for TTN
