Hawaii?

Last year there was a rumor that F9 was looking into adding direct flights to HNL from LAX. It may have been a plan when LAX was a focus city, but that went away pretty quickly. Would Denver folks fly to HNL via LAX on F9?

Is there enuf interest?

I really can't seen F9 starting HNL service, especially out of LAX.

First there's the competition. I think F9 would get slaughtered going up against AA,UA,HA, and AQ. They couldn't make their LAX focus city work. What would make LAX-HNL any more profitable? With HP coming into the market next year the competition is going to heat up.

Second they'd have to get some planes ETOPS certified. That takes about a year.

The only chance F9 has is to serve HNL out of DEN. The A319 has a max range of 3700nm. DEN-HNL 3360nm. However, I'm not sure if F9 could do this non-stop in the winter months when headwinds are stronger. They would have to have a technical stop in LAX simliar to B6 on their supposed transcons.

I doubt any sort of service will be added HNL-LAX-HNL. That route is entirely over saturated with 15 departures/day by various carriers (ATA, UA, NW, CO, DL, AA, HA).

It would be nice if there was at least a partner to use award miles on. ^

Someone already mentioned ETOPS, so I won't go into that. But, can their planes (A318/A319) make it from LAX-HNL with no problem, or will they need to have weight restrictions?

Slightly OT but, Denver TV news had a story on Monday night about F9 examining entry into Candaian markets.

If you stick with UA then you can fly to HI on an award ticket...and to almost anywhere in Europe, South America, Asia, Australia....need I go on? With Frontier you can go to Dayton, or Austin, El Paso, Omaha, Detroit...shall I continue?

Seriously, who wants to fly from DEN to HNL or OGG in an all economy A319?

737? At least get the model numbers right

I don't disagree that flying into HNL would help F9s frequent flyer program but I certainly think it is not feasible under the cost structure. I have never liked the attitude of spending money in saturated markets just to make a stock ticker go up and then going bankrupt because of it. ATA comes to mind. The Canadian option seams more likely to me since there is a large amount of traffic between CGY and EDM with DEN and IAH. Don't forget that the Vancouver Olympics are 4 years away and would also be a good expansion option. HNL should and probably is far down on the list of targets considering F9 could make more money with more direct flights to Mexico from forgotten areas of the Midwest. (STL-CAN for example)

You're right, one business model makes financial sense, while the other one doesn't. I'll let you determine which one is which.

UA has about 65% of the DEN market and F9 has about 25% so I'll let you decide. Keep in mind, it wasn't the business model but the implementation by bad management that let costs spiral out of control.

I'll let you sit in F9s "premium seating" area with the same 18" of width and 33" of pitch that every other seat has while I sit in 1A (78" of pitch and 21.5" of width) on a 777 going to/from IAD next week. Have fun, I know I will! BTW, the service I receive will be slightly superior to that of the "excellent" (and overly democratic) service on F9.

The A319 has a max range of 3700nm so yes they can do LAX-HNL.

They are rumored to exist but nobody has ever seen one. Obviously, I am speaking in hyperbole but you get the picture. UA award tickets are very hard to get from my experience. UA miles are better suited for upgrades, IMHO.

To set the record straight, I didn't say anything negative about F9's service. I said it was "too democratic". Several years ago when my travel was around 30k miles a year I flew F9 almost exclusively and all it got me was a seat in the first 10 or so rows of the plane with the same pitch as every other seat on the plane - big deal - and some frebbie tickets to MCO - another big deal, they're something like $300 roundtrip so I'll just buy 'em when I want 'em. I wrote a very nice email to F9 and suggested they block the emergency exit row of for Accent and Summit members until 20 minutes before departure. This is exactly what they do for the bulkhead seats and handicapped travelers so I know its possible. Two emails went unanswered and a third received a canned response about the emergency exit rows having extra legroom for our safety not our comfort. A completely ignorant view, IMHO, given the fact most frequent travlers would have more of an idea what to do in case of an emergncy than Joe and Mary I'm-on-my-once-a-year-vacation-and-have-nothing-better-to-do-than-get-to-the-airport-3-hours-ahead-of-time Traveler. After that I switched to UA, spend most of my time in F or C (between hubs) and have excellent service. If I didn't have status and Y then I would probably fly F9 but there is a HUGE difference between the way you are treated in F or C on UA and the solid service f) provides everybody. I just don't see what loyalty to F9 gets you, please explain.
