I really can't seen F9 starting HNL service, especially out of LAX.

First there's the competition. I think F9 would get slaughtered going up against AA,UA,HA, and AQ. They couldn't make their LAX focus city work. What would make LAX-HNL any more profitable? With HP coming into the market next year the competition is going to heat up.

Second they'd have to get some planes ETOPS certified. That takes about a year.

The only chance F9 has is to serve HNL out of DEN. The A319 has a max range of 3700nm. DEN-HNL 3360nm. However, I'm not sure if F9 could do this non-stop in the winter months when headwinds are stronger. They would have to have a technical stop in LAX simliar to B6 on their supposed transcons.
