Don't worry, I've flagged Randy's posts for violating the rules on posts about moderation.

I'm not mad I'm just... Not surprised at all.

I would be interested to know if Boarding Area has a policy of not posting information that was not meant to be publicly shared. Or is it #cool if it attracts credit card purchases?
i appreciate people who share information about the utterly opaque, conflict-filled, predatory credit card selling blog industry.

Why do you need to flag it? The mod in question has already responded, and would have deleted if if he felt it was necessary.

When i see blatant violations of the Flyertalk rules, I flag them- and let others know so they don't feel the need to flag. And I'm not sure of the actual practices, but I don't know if when a post calls for a moderator to be suspended, that same moderator "rules" on the validity of the post. But to each his own! Have a blessed day!

"the price of dreams in blogging is often starvation for your skill set".

My blog brought in 42 cents yesterday. And I have just one conversion this month. Therefore, I volunteer to be a model spokesperson if you ever wanted someone who just lives this dream lol.

Look, we are all stressed. After attending Tiffany's video with Stefan of Rapid Travel Chai last night in Facebook it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that our travel niche area is hurting ALL around. I am actually thinking to buy a cottage in the woods in Northern Michigan to get away from the quarantining madness instead of hopping on a plane and flying with asymptomatic carriers!

I don't see the harm in reposting something that is ON subject of the thread. Plus, Oliver IS the moderator...Hate it when he exercises his privileges against me...every time lol.

I don't see any of the figures referenced in Randy's pasted text. There are a bunch of images that appear to have the rest of the newsletter but it is way too small, my eye sight is just not that good anymore, or it is just me?

Hang in there everybody. In Testing We Trust. We will come out of this...in the meantime, hunker down!

I was alerted to this thread by another member of FlyerTalk, and I'm glad for it. there's two things that this particular post deserve: 1/ a question about Moderator Standards; 2/ truth in posting.
1/ in the founding of the volunteer Moderators corps, it was always a goal that a certain standard of behavior would be on display by Moderators when within a forum that they moderated. If I were still around, I would immediately suspend this moderator from his volunteer responsibilities. A moderator should never republish information given to them that they know is private and certainly not intended for them. That is not a Moderator standard. Members of FlyerTalk have to know that they can trust a moderator to have good judgement. I would say that even without this being a Moderator standard issue, it is not considered #cool to republish content that was redirected to someone in confidence. But I get it, maybe standards have changed. I would call on the management of FlyerTalk to review what their current standards are for moderators and if deemed worthy, take some action here. Bottom line: members have to know they can trust a Moderator and i do hope that has not changed.
(** for the record, I'm a big fan of Oliver and credit him as the co-founder of the popular MegaDo's. For those who may not know, the original MegaDo was floundering and did not appear to be able to sell. Oliver who was working with Tommy777 at the time to launch the idea approached me for help and I offered it unconditionally with the advent of the popular MegaDo thread contests and giveaways. It has always been clear to me that Oliver deserved a lot of credit for their success. (sort of the Scottie Pippen of the Chicago Bulls success story for you sports fans). the point being, it's not about Oliver, it's about the standards of Moderators.)

2/ I find it very disturbing that this Moderator chose to misrepresent what was said. For instance, nowhere in my Note do i say that revenue was down 75%? Actually, I note that while the landscape of advertising could portray a possible scenario of such, the actual damage of revenue on the network was far less. And I don't even say that "long term ad revenue will be down 50-75%" ... I note two-four months which is hardly long term. How could Oliver decide to misrepresent what was actually said? Very poor form to have posted it and very poor form to misrepresent it as well.
And Oliver goes on to misrepresent another fact. There is my personal effort to keep blogging dreams alive with "food, shelter and medical costs". if needed How is that confused with "staff and overheads" Staff? Clearly a misrepresentation of the facts and certainly the intent.

How can the members of FlyerTalk rely on this truly great resource when a Moderator can't be trusted and when they (a moderator) post and misrepresent the facts? I'm very sorry to see this and do know that it is really just the behavior of a single member, but all members deserve better.

I'm not mad, just disappointed. And since it's already been "recapped" here, I'll post what I published and let the members try and find the "revenue down 75%" and "staff" that Oliver references. #standardsmatter

Randy Petersen , I have RBPd this post. When you ran FlyerTalk you instilled a strict standard that regular posters were NEVER allowed to call out or criticize moderators.

Several times I called out moderators and was suspended from FlyerTalk for doing so. I appealed those suspensions to you and you told me that in your opinion the cardinal sin was calling out moderators for perceived unfair actions.

You lectured me that if I had a problem with something a moderator did the proper action was to reach out to you as management directly, and NEVER to post about moderators on the forum.

Time to stop in your tracks for fear of walking on the mines you laid.

Because what Randy did violates the FlyerTalk TOS:

Discussion Of Moderator Actions

Moderators value your private views and feedback related to their actions and duties. You may submit appropriate feedback to moderators by private message or e-mail. Do not post comments about moderator decisions or actions, or about the work of moderators, unless a moderator has invited members to post feedback in a particular thread.

Any concerns about the actions of a moderator should be directed exclusively and privately to the [email protected].

Posters are regularly suspended for doing what Randy did in this thread, and the irony is that this is a rule that Randy created and enforced with a very heavy hand.

Some people seem to be okay with Randy's hypocrisy, and his style of coming on here every few months to make nasty accusations/comments to defend his financial interests while refusing to meaningfully engage as a community member. The house of miles is made of glass, yet Randy gets away with throwing bricks.

Bloggers on BoardingArea should stop their incessant whining about Hawaii. Bunch of over-entitled brats crying about Hawaii “not opening up again!” On and on and on...:td:

gpapadop Aug 10, 2020 6:32 pm

They are frustrated not being to able to "write" content like "Fly in First Class and stay in a ridiculous suite like me in Hawaii for free!"...

after you click and get 9 of these credit cards...click click click $$$$. They are all hurting...

The House of Miles is more like a House of Cards.

Looks like quite a good business model at the moment! They have presumably furloughed their ad sales people, as there is no advertising to be sold, but continue to take their cut of all the Adsense revenue.

The only snag there is that Google takes 30% of desktop and 50% of mobile ad revenue, so once BA has taken its cut of the remainder it doesn't leave much.

I still see 15 non-English language articles on the home page today though, so clearly room for improvement :-)

Who are the suckers who click on those links these days??

OMG, re-reading this thread is like a hilarious trip down memory lane. I completely repressed Million Mile Secrets from my memory and the literal circles and arrows! 2014 travel world was a trip.

GUWonder Feb 10, 2022 7:11 am

Credit-card-pushing still seems to be the order of the day for the bigger bloggers in the miles and points space in the US. How much traction they get during this year will be interesting to see.

As if BA wasn't painfully awkward and unfunny as it is, there is a new blog attempting to be the travel version of The Onion:
