I just used the Contact button at the bottom of the BA page.

It's not due to dislike of the author or the content they make, maybe it's something about the satire being mixed in with the "journalism" and not caring enough to apply the extra brainpower to mentally filter between the two on the homepage.

Anyway, I created this quick-and-dirty-works-for-me filter on uBlock Origin (under Settings -> My Filters) and I now am back to reading on my desktop.

Code:

boardingarea.com##div.excerpt:has-text(/The Takeoff Nap/)
boardingarea.com##div.featured:has-text(/The Takeoff Nap/)

Thanks for this tip!!

Of all the trash on BA (and there is a lot), that is hands down the dumbest most inane bunch of garbage...it is bad enough flipping through the site looking for the occasional worthwhile read, to have to have one more refuse dump taking up space with its idiotic insanely unfunny nonsense. I even emailed the BA crew just to express my thoughts :).

I'm going to do the same. Lame jokes are one thing. But the recent post trying to use the school shooting as a basis for "travel humor" was flat-out disgusting. "Required Reading for Frequent Flyers" indeed:rolleyes:

Got a response today from my BA contact many weeks ago saying "we've been working on a MyBoardingArea project for some time now with a redesign of our landing page. you will soon (hopefully in the next few weeks) enjoy an option to custom build your own front page—choose english only blogs, choose eight blogs plus trip reports, choose all but The Takeoff Nap. we've been working on this for some time now as it's really complicated on the back end but we're in that proverbial "last mile" of the project so maybe the timing is great for this."

Whilst I'm not an IT guy, I struggle to believe that having a list of blogs - perhaps listed by language - that you go through and check / uncheck can really be 'really complicated on the back end'!

There are also potential downsides here for BA because it just creates an echo chamber, and it will be really hard for new blogs to build an audience.

Ditching non-English language stuff - no brainer.

Letting me curate my own list of English language blogs - not so sure. A stopped clock is, after all, right twice per day.

Allowing users curate their own blog Home screen/filter by language or other user-selected criteria may be a way toward building a registered member/customer database, and maybe eventually work that into having member forum discussions grow?

How many daily viewers do BoardingArea blogs have in total? And how many daily viewers does FT have?

Ironically, several non english blogs are often some of the most useful for what BA used to actually be about...real travel info, travel reports and travel deals...not moronic, idiotic, terrible terrible "satire", vocalized political nonsense, thought leading of any kind, deals on USB wall chargers and most critically, credit card shilling. I get a lot of deals from non english blogs...fortunately my german and spanish are both good enough to get info from blog titles and the japanese are often good for travel reports and info. BA should be about people writing their travel experiences and post info for a travel community but it turned into so much vomit space for people to write whatever they want and think (pretty much like our social media world now) and to hope they can make a "business" out of their blog, so the credit card profit motive poison spread through it.

This week it is a feeding frenzy trying to get you to click on their amazon links so they can collect affiliate revenue on anything you buy on Amazon for the next weeks. 🤦‍♂️

That said it takes considerable time and skill to write something that people will enjoy and come back for. To expect that bloggers should be altruists and just put in the effort with no financial reward is a bit naive?

As always, the problem lies with the inadequate disclosure that these posts about amazing deals are basically ads.

I am ok with people making it a business but there is a big difference between putting out MOSTLY quality travel related content that is informative with some well disclosed affiliate links that inform people about the profit motive behind credit cards etc they offer and that there might be better options/bonuses/etc out there and telling people to please support them by using links/ads etc if they like the content, as opposed to just pumping out endless trash that is barely travel related, brings nothing new or interesting to the table and serves as a breeding ground for just useless and endless credit card shilling, Amazon etc revenue links, clickbait articles that start with "WHOA:", idiotic satire and so on.

They would stop doing it when morons stop clicking...So, I guess, it works for them $$$, SAD!

I have to just say again how awesome the post about how to block The Takeoff Nap stupidity was, as I have also used it to block another increasingly stupid blog, C Boarding Group (which unsurprisingly I think is the parent of The Takeoff Nap). SO awesome, thanks again.

Finally took the time to figure out how to get this setup. Initially didn't realize that uBlock is an addon for Chrome browser. THANK YOU Speedy for posting.

Well I thought I'd rid myself of that clown's blog but the post showed up in my Facebook feed.

Today's post by The Takeoff Nap has set a new low for Boarding Area. I won't link it because I don't want this fool to get any clicks but here's the title:

"9/11 terrorist whose flight was canceled day of attack still fighting airline for refund"

Did they pull that piece? I didn't see it on https://thetakeoffnap.com/ .

Freedom of the press/expression means that there will be irreverent, intentionally provocative, bottom-fishing satirical junk that makes the rounds -- Charlie Hebdo, case in point.

And freedom of expression means that there will be people calling out poor and tasteless attempts at humor.
