"DO" Trips

Hello All,

I wasn't sure where to post this so I apologize if it is in the wrong forum. I have read many times about a trip for FF nuts, as we all are, where a plane was chartered and they went to several different locations and had different events setup. I remember one that had a trip to the Boeing plant in Seattle and another to a flight simulator at American Airlines in Dallas.

I don't recall what these trips were called or when they were held but I recall them being called "DO's" or something like that.

About once a year I think of these trips, spend hours trying find them again only to find out that one just finished. I was hoping to go on one of these trips but cannot seem to find them so I thought I would reach out to the group for help.

If anyone has information or a link about these trips I would greatly appreciate you passing it along to me.

Thanks much

Paul

You are probably thinking of "Mega Dos" of which there are several threads about past Dos in CommunityBuzz, including:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...d-threads.html
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...terthread.html

Since these Mega Dos are no longer organised by FlyerTalk I am moving this thread to the External Miles and Points Resources forum where you should be able to read about more recent Mega Dos, e.g.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/exter...ga-do-5-a.html

In addition, there are a bunch of other somewhat smaller scale DOs, most of which are listed in CommunityBuzz, including annual events in Australia, Singapore, Buenos Aires, London, NYC, Alaska, Ann Arbor, Kentucky, Texas (Austin, technically not quite annual), etc. These aren't "organized by FT" either but active individual FT members do volunteer to organize them.

Long before there were MegaDo's there were just DOs. Even on airplanes. Here we are in...2004? 2005? On a flight ORD-LHR:

Good times, good times.

You left one out.

The Brooklyn Reality Tour (BRT) only has 3 seats left.

Isn't Brooklyn part of NYC? Also, what about Soup DO and Wine DO? Saying NYC is easier and includes all of them. [Before you correct me, I know Wine DO has apparently sometimes been more than once a year and IIRC Soup DO may have started as Catman DO.]

The Brooklyn Reality tour was based upon a Seinfeld episode and only covers certain areas of Brooklyn - the parts the tourists don't see and where natives actually live (versus those who moved into NYC/Brooklyn)

The Catman Do was something completely different. The soup Do sorta replaced it an always takes place the night before the BRT.

The Wine Do is fairly new (compared to the other 2) and always takes place after the other two.

Not everyone attends all 3, and technically, it's not a weekend event. They're all individual.

The Brooklyn Realty Tour is by invitation only. You must be a realtor who sold a minimum of $10,000,000.00 worth of homes in a neighborhood called Canarsie to attend.

I understand at least one Hammer is required — just in case a house needs a minor repair.

The Brooklyn Reality Tour was named at the completion of BRT 1. My dear friend magic111, who now watches over us from a first class seat up above, gave the tour it's name. It reminded him of the Kramer Reality Tour noted by mary2e above. As a nod to the original, I post this link. http://www.kennykramer.com/RealityTourText.html

N.B. The last several years, we've stopped in the (now) ultra cool/chic Williamsburg neighborhood (Bedford Avenue). Take the L train from Manhattan to the first stop in Brooklyn. Subway map here... http://web.mta.info/maps/submap.html

WineDo 7 will follow BRT 15. I'm not sure you would call this new.

mary2e is also correct in saying that not everyone attends all 3 events. Too much of a good thing.

Canarsie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canarsie,_Brooklyn

Time permitting, I may checkout Canarsie Pier this year. http://www.nyharborparks.org/visit/capi.html
It's a good place to planespot JFK arrivals or departures. It's located in Brooklyns own Gateway National Park. http://www.nps.gov/gate/index.htm

I just realized I didn't respond to a Community thread. Sorry to be off topic.

Not only did I author a portion of that article posted on Wikipedia; but I also used to go fishing off of Canarsie Pier, as I lived only a few blocks from there.

In fact, the house where I lived is within that map at the official Internet web site of Canarsie Pier.

One day, I will conduct a Canarsie Reality Tour...

FYI, a portion of the funds collected are donated to the Captain Jason Dahl Fund. http://dahlfund.org/

My HAM do is starting this weekend with 7 empty seats for Airbus. Should have packaged it as a 500$ trip of a lifetime instead of charging the exact cost of 30EUR
