A week in AMS
We are going to AMS for a week. - Is there any difference among the Marriotts there?
We don't want to stay near the airport or just next to the Harbor- I know they are cheaper on points, but not ideal for the city center
- That leaves the W, the Marriott and the Renaissance
Any idea which is better for simple tourism and attractions?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

If you're not planning to spend most of your time in the innermost core (Dam, Red Light District), then pick the Marriott. It's closer to the museum quarter and an easy tram ride to the core/Centraal.

I stayed at the Marriott a couple of years ago. It is very convenient to major tram lines and you can walk to museums such as the Rijks. Very nice hotel but this was just before the pandemic. I am uncertain if Marriott has reopened its executive lounge there. It does not look as if they have done so at the airport Sheraton. I am headed to AMS in a couple of weeks but I am staying at the Hilton at the airport which is also a lovely hotel. Train ride into Amsterdam central is short.

We had a few 50k certs and that came in handy - interestingly, even if you book a 5 night but use free certs for a couple, you still get the free night after 4 using awards - so really for 2 nights points we get 3.

Our tour guide took us to the roof top of the W hotel last time. According to her, W is one of the most popular hotel in the city and have the best view at their roof top bar/pool area. But she said she told all her friends not to stay there as it is too expansive and not worth the room rate.

In Amsterdam, you don't change cash money at banks anymore. There are not many actual banks left in town. However, it is super simple to change cash at the exchange offices along Damrak (street between the Dam square and the Central Station). Use pottchange.com close to the Dam square, next to the Swissotel. The rates are on display and it is clear and no hidden charges. Avoid the offices of GWK to change money (they are at the airport but also in town and at the railway station), as they charge a big commission.
