A cousin of mine who lives in Albany was paying US$1500/month, after insurance, for one prescription. Now the family goes to Montreal, where they pay CAD$600 (about US$440) for a six-month supply. That's right: their out-of-pocket cost is twenty times higher in the States.
The antibiotic Rifaximin costs ~11.30 US$/100mg. In Greece the price per 100 mg is ~0.28 €.
This brings up an idea: I could organize trips to Greece for people that need the stuff; I would certainly be making a lot of money. And I would certainly ask much less than a US doctor for my prescription, thus, additional savings

Relative, relative, and irrelevant? Not Western doesn't mean its not safe. Is Paris safer than Singapore, Tokyo, Taipei, or Hong Kong?

Geographically speaking, Singapore, Tokyo, Taipei and Hong Kong are always West (and East)
The cold war definition of "the west" certainly included Japan, Singapore, etc. Today I tend to say that the notion simply refers to all developed nations (which include HK, SG, TW and JP).

If you go West and walk far enough, you eventually reach the East. And vice versa.
