Thanks so much HadesNL Loved the video.
Just had some good news a few minutes ago I got an email saying my husband's ticket was also being refunded in full within 15 days so that should be another £1.1k coming back. So now we just have to get that in the bank and there's 7 seats to be refunded but they are only £200 in total so less worrying. |
Hmm, my version of the dance of the seven veils seems to working, maybe i could deploy it for world peace? Make love and no war! I am of that generation:p
But congratulations, that is excellent news ! Better to have those £ back in own hands:tu: |
I am £8.5k down and still waiting, 8 days now. Maybe it takes longer to count it haha
|
Also still waiting, submitted the refund form 8 days ago.

There's a post on Reddit saying people need to write INVOL cancellation on the form in comments so it won't be treated as voluntary. That's what we have done but also screenshot the full refund message on FAQs and saved both forms. I wrote a sentence on each form saying something like this is an involuntary cancellation for a full refund as advertised as being available to 31 March 2026. I added if seat bookings are also being refunded please send money back to X account which paid for them. Obviously won't know until get refunds but I think if fails with this evidence chargeback via banks might be possible with debit cards and credit card try provider. Hopefully Emirates will refund in full as promised. Someone said there are different departments for voluntary and involuntary.
The Reddit post is on the Emirates forum and called Emirates refund clarification for flights affected by airspace disruption (28 Feb – 31 Mar)I'm booked to fly STN - DXB - AKL on 30/3 & leave for home on 16/4. Even though I'm due to fly out a fortnight today, I'm just hoping that the turmoil comes to an end within that time and we can all get back to enjoying the on board cuisine and inflight entertainment at a height of 36,000 feet. |
Thanks HadesNL
Good luck to others getting the refunds. I did submit a second form for our late one and think it's the second one that worked. You seem to need to be especially careful with EMD numbers and names being an exact match. It's worth opening the pdf for every transaction, we had 4 transactions and I think 9 emd numbers. Although it says 15 days I found they either go through quickly, 5 days or so or seem to get stuck. Maybe a computer is doing it. It's very like if 1 field isn't 100% match it's computer says no. But it does get resolved. If your outbound flight is before 31 March return flights are covered, we were in that category. Quite lucky we had not booked an April departure though may get extended. |

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the acronym "EMD" stand for with your reference to "EMD numbers" ? |
The EMD was a new thing to me having never booked with Emirates before. I thought everything would be linked by Booking Reference but it seems their systems are more by EMD number. EMD numbers start 176. I expected just one of these or one person passenger but we had lots, I think as when we bought flights the seats did not go through and then we had separate transactions for seats. Though best thing is to open every pdf for everything like each seat, each flight and put what it says is that emd number on the form. Online it says it stands for Emirates Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD).
Though someone else may know more than me. I have just muddled my way through this. |
What to do if your flight is affected
If you booked for travel between 28 February until and including 15 April 2026, you have the following options depending on your circumstances. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...85b0eb6379.jpg |
15 April - still very optimistic!
|
Our experience - went out to Melbourne 9th December from Glasgow, booked to return 5th March, Business Class. Advised by Emirates on 2nd March that if you had a booking up to and including 5th March you could rebook up to 15 days on or seek a refund. We applied for a refund in the Emirates app and almost immediately got an acknowledgement by email of the cancellation. About 2 days later our trip disappeared from the app so we assumed it had been cancelled. Meanwhile we booked the first available flights we could get, Singapore Airlines MEL-SIN-AMS-GLA Economy 10th March. Our friends who had 1st March flights cancelled booked on the same flight the night before (for $2k AUD less than we paid!!! Profiteering or what?). We got an email on 8th or 9th to say we were getting a refund and how much (which was slightly under 1/2 what we paid for returns originally). We also noticed in the app that we lost the Skywards miles we were due for the outward journey which is a bit rough but we ticked the boxes to progress the refund. We got home on 11th March and the refunds were in our bank account. 9 days from cancellation to receiving the refund. That's our experience.

Such a relief that the date has been extended. We have now applied. Thanks to those who have shared their experience and enabled us to fill the form out correctly (we hope!)
I’ll report back on the outcome. |
