Flew this last week DXB-MGQ. Despite the comparatively high prices and long flight times it appears to be a visa run route, like JIB. Overheard one of the crew asking the other which country Mogadishu was in, and the purser informed me that I was one of 8 passengers actually disembarking (not appearing on return manifest) on a flight that was about 70% full, and was equally puzzled why there would be double daily starting in June. A flight engineer was dead heading as the only other person sitting in J. My speculation is that visa runs are spaced out using East Africa flights that arrive at generally slower times in T2? Happy to hear thoughts on why someone would visa run on FZ when it is neither the cheapest nor fastest option around ...

Interestingly, I met a disproportionately high number of Russian and Ukrainian U.N. contractors on the ground, although most of them were on multi-month contracts, I can't imagine a turnover high enough to warrant 2x flights per day to connect Russia to Somalia, and other countries have much better connections through DOH or ADD...

Just from my quick skim of the schedules, September has F scheduled to DPS. I would imagine if the DPS-AKL sector resumes they will add F back to this route.

The original DXB-DPS-AKL routing catered to the excess freight demand to/from New Zealand that the A380 couldn't haul on the non-stop flight. Currently EK has contracted Air Belgium to operate a freighter DWC-CGK-AKL, so I'm not sure we'll see this route return in the short term.
