That’s strange. My review date is only in November, and I got it. The weird and wonderful ways of EK.

I had miles expiring Dec 2020 also extended to March 2021 which is pretty stingy. EK have just extended my Silver membership for another year so surely makes sense to extend miles as well (especially as UK members have a pretty restricted capability of flying anywhere).

The accounting is tricky and varies by airlines, but generally speaking unused miles are a liability for them. Extending tier status costs them little / nothing, but extending miles validity does come with costs, so unlikely you’ll ever see validity extended to everyone in perpetuity at EK, given their focus on profitability.

The website now says: "We’ve extended the validity of any Skywards Miles due to expire on or after April 2020 until 30 June 2021."
I take it as a confirmation that the validity of my miles will be extended.

Has it been stated that tier will be extended again into 2022? My renewal date still shows as 12/31/21.

I think it’s on the website. And members were sent emails.

Wanted to follow up on this. Did EK announce that everyones status will be extended another year, or just select members? Because my dad is Platinum and his renewal date is 12/31/21. It doesn't show anything on his account page about an extension. He is currently at about 120k tier miles with no more flying planned for the rest of the year.. So unless they extended status, he isn't going to retain platinum. So just curious what to expect as of 1/1/22.

Thanks!

It’s all members. On the day, or the day after, he should get an email confirming renewal for 12 months.

Can anyone help with a definitive answer on this, or direct me to one?

The last day of my "Skywards year" is the 31st of October and I've got a flight departing Singapore at 2100 and arriving Dubai 0100 on 1st November. Will my tier miles count towards the current review period, or the next one?

Many thanks

Miles credit after your flight, not before it. So my guess would be that they count towards the next year. Not a definitive answer though!
You are probably aware of the '13 month rule' which is important for achieving a tier, but it does not apply to retain a tier (although you would generally be given an additional 3 months with the benefits of your previous tier plus the opportunity to collect tier miles to retain that previous tier).

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this. Is there a general rule on how many tier miles need to be connected within that three months to retain status? Do they offer this by default or would I have to request it? A bit annoying that I'll lose out on retaining Gold if the miles count towards the 1st rather than 31st.

The 3 month rule is you get to keep your Gold benefits for three months after your renewal date even if you fail to renew. During that 3 months, the 13 months rolling calculation would be in play so if you re-qualified using that calculation you might never really lose out.

It sounds awkward the way I've written it but hopefully you understand what I mean or someone can explain it better.

I think you have explained it quite well here.
'augustwolf' will unfortunately loose out if he (or she) does not travel (sufficiently) in those three months. As happened to me in 2020 when I could not travel because of the travel restrictions and therefore lost my Gold status (but I'll have it back in May). That was end Feb 2020, had it been end March (as it was for mrs t), I would have been 'protected'.

Pleasantly surprised to get an email yesterday extending my Gold by another year. Reflected on the website too:

We’ve extended the current tier status of Emirates Skywards members whose review date is before June 2022 for another 12 months.

Well, we nearly saw it coming. My wife got her renewal date in March, so one year Silver extension. My Gold renewal date is in June. I wrote them an email, they declined to extend.
We are living in South Africa. I'm also gold with QR and TK. How many frequent flyers EK is going to lose? EK hasn't been flying most of 2021 to South Africa. And when they did it, you couldn't trust their schedule or assurance you could fly both ways. So we've kept flying, but not with them. They only restarted recently to fly. So if you have your renewal date in June, it gives you 6 months to get 50,000 status miles on an airline you couldn't trust in 2021.

Been Gold with them for over 5 years. But I won't fly in Economy if they don't extend my status while I enjoy status on OneWorld and Star Alliance. I'm wondering if they are going to re-consider with countries that they haven't been able to serve properly in 2021. Could lose a lot to QR or TK. I guess few here are in the same boat! Perfect if your renewal date is up to May 2022...but after this, it's bye bye EK...sad!
