In the event that you request a refund and it is not forthcoming, be certain to start the chargeback process with your card issuer (bank). EK may offer you a credit for future travel. I would not accept that unless the credit includes a significant premium above the face value of the ticket.
FWIW, South African Airways also just canceled essentially all their flights, but they've decided NOT to provide ANY refunds, in direct breach of their Contract of Carriage (presumably to conserve cash). Will be interesting to see which airlines will process refunds and which ones simply won't.

Interestingly they seem to have deleted the tweets about the cancelation.

It's still on the COVID-19 page of the EK site :-
FLIGHT UPDATES

Emirates will temporarily suspend passenger operations by 25 March.

Until 25 March, the situation remains dynamic and our flight schedules may change at short notice to comply with regulatory directives or operational requirements. We aim to provide affected customers with updated information as early as possible.

Now they're saying that certain flights will continue while borders remain open?!

Flights to UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, USA, and Canada will continue as long as there is demand, and borders remain open, reads the press release now. Also to support repatriation.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-22/emirates-to-suspend-all-passenger-operations-from-march-25

Flight to most destinations will stop operating from March 25, Emirates said Sunday in an email. Cargo service and routes to 12 countries including the U.S., U.K., Switzerland and Singapore, will remain in operation, the company said.

“We cannot viably operate passenger services until countries re-open their borders, and travel confidence returns,” Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said in a message to employees seen by Bloomberg. “Some of our competitors, or even our supply chain partners, may not survive this crisis.”

Typical Emirates, can't make up it's mind. I think for 4 weeks it will run a reduced service, many borders closed or restricted, if world can keep hold and start to reduce numbers of infections, doors will start to relax.

Their Instagram post has been edited to say:

"Having received requests from governments and customers to support the repatriation of travellers, Emirates will continue to operate passenger and cargo flights to the following countries until further notice, as long as borders remain open, and there is demand: the UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, USA, and Canada..."

Are we now allowed to request for a full cash refund?
If departing from the EU/UK/CH then a cash refund is mandated by law (EC261/2004 article 8).

I had requested a travel voucher for flights I am supposed to take on 29th March and 3rd April.
Two problems with vouchers -> 1. Will the airline, who issued the voucher, still exist in 6 months? 2. The airline may raise fares, that means with such a voucher you cannot fully pay the flight anymore.
