As said to the previous poster, feed this back to EK Customer Service. This practice, if as widespread as you suggest, may end up costing someone a missed flight departure through no fault of their own and we all know how difficult airlines can be at times when someone is late for check in.
Its always reassuring to get the confirmation call thinking all is okay but decreases the ability to argue your case if you have no evidence the company confirmed the correct pickup time but failed to show at that time. Might be an idea to ask for an SMS confirmation too. I know Ive had SMS confirmations sent to me in PEK, which, in worse case scenario could help if any issue arose because of CD turning up late and missing check in cut off time.

In hindsight a 4.15 booking would have been ideal, I arrived at 4.35 and the Y check in was still really busy. I breezed through had a quick coffee in the lounge and it was time to board without any hanging around.

Just to add this to the mix.... my CD after EK414 (landed at 2230) dropped me home at 2315 then said he would sleep in his car before picking up for EK415. Shocking management in the CD company.

Oh dear... Have had a similar experience at a European destination, though I was the pax being picked up the next morning for an early departure - and the driver repeatedly fell asleep at the wheel. My most harrowing CD ever!

My driver actually turned out to be a good laugh however he did proceed to explain the points system. When I asked how many he had left his reply was "you don't want to know" followed by something about losing them all and being on a "probation period!" This conversation started due to him running a red and telling me "you didn't see that"...

Off topic but I also once (April 2016) got off an EY J flight in SYD only to find no CD available. They soon found someone willing to return to the airport who then walked me through the car park looking for a Range Rover which he had never driven before. We had to stop for petrol and for him to pick up takeaway Thai food for his family during the 6.5km rise to my house. He then scraped 3 of the cars parked in my narrow street on his way out. It was so bad I had to laugh. EY couldn't have cared less.
